~ The Dirty Girl ~ (TQ10 ressurection)

Post by templeofspeed »

Well, she arrived in all her filthy depraved glory.

She's definitely been around the block a few times, and had a few "updates" along the way:

Kyosho gold rear shocks
TRX-1 turnbuckles w/ white captured ball ends
RPM gear cover in black
S&K giant front bumper (that was put on after the front of the chassis was hammered... :(
Novak T-4 ESC
Duratrax DTX-4 ESC (exactly like the Novak T-4, except a blue case)
A matching pink Bud's Super Wing
A few extra holes in her chassis...
and an unbelieveably smooth six gear trans...

I'll get some pics posted tonight after the autopsy, and probably put the Kyo and TRX stuff in the BST.

She'll clean up pretty well, but I don't know if I'm going to go beyond a good cleaning and replacing the non AE parts with good used original stuff. The rear of the chassis is a pretty nice replica of hoopty's =dirty rat=...

Looks like quite the project.
check the ball ends to make sure they did not use the traxxas 3mm screws, as this may make fitting the AE 4-40 ball studs difficult.
I've got something similar coming from ebay.
I find it more satisfying to breakdown, clean and rebuild a used car like this than building a NIB modern kit.
I always wonder why people seem to drill random holes in the chassis.
My jrx has a couple small holes that don't seem to be placed right to use for anything practical. :?
Have fun,
-Anthony

Sell more chassis from AE's standpoint... make the aftermarket companies rich selling upgrades... I'll bet that RPM or CRP made a few $ on that deal. Dunno about S&K...

When I first raced my T4, I used a RPM large front bumper, I imediately understand that was a really bad upgrade . When you jump, if the nose dive a little too much, the large bumper makes the car flip over and crash.

I guess those cars are build for track racing, not backyard bashing...

oh, i didn't mean a wide bumper from the factory. just a small one, like the rpm shorty bumper. just enough to cover the front kickup.

in my experience, running D.O., the only reason to use a wide bumper was to mount a late model body.

or, moving someone out of the way.

about the motor plate. you just mean that it's black and for the 6 gear trans? not that it's tq10 only.

although, i know what your saying. being as though the tq10's were black, and none of the rc10 6 gears were.

nevermind.....................

Black and six-gear only pretty much sums it up as TQ10 specific...

Doesn't repair the damage though...

ya i know, but i was too far into my message to turn back................. :)

well, even if there was no extra holes, your gonna re-do the car, the motor plate would need to be stripped. so at that point, it wouldn't matter if the plate started out black or gold.

Pretty much easier to start with a good gold plate at this point. The TQ one is pretty trashed. I know about Lumiweld, but why bother when I can just refinish a readily available gold one...? I can then offer the original as a "Factory Lightened" Horizon hop-up...

Well, she's about as clean as possible without just throwing it all away and starting over with a NIB kit. No new parts were harmed (or used) during this process...

I tried several different concoctions to get the white parts whiter, nothing really works... :( BIZ detergent and hot water did get everything clean at least.

It helps when you have a pile of old gold tub parts and hardware to pick through. I'm particularly proud of the fact that I was able to scrounge a complete set of early "half round" white ball cups! 8)

I guess this is the template for a "late" TQ10. Just like an RC10 Graphite without universal driveshafts... I dunno if the TQ70 front tires are correct, but I'll guess neither do any of you all... :?

So, here's the all singing all dancing ~Dirty Girl~ after a little spa treatment... still no beauty queen, but hey, still fun to play with.

TOS,she looks good!!,weathered but still nice.I'm sure others use it too,but use "Spray-9" cleaner on the white parts, works killer!! I used Simple-green,and left a funny tint to the parts,Spray-9 is the stuff.
