I was able to apply some choppe mat backing with about 2oz of epoxy last night.
The chassis came out and for the most part the aluminum released.
The widened flanges at the front and the back kept bridges from happening in the mold.
Any wrinkles in the foil became stuck and would make a part stick. I need to remove all the stuck foil then trim down the excess. From there I need to add a lot more reinforcement to the flat ends.
The gel coat is quite brittle and tears like paper or shatters in places where there is no backing.
There is no crazing nor any obvious voids in the mold.
Once this is finished up I can get to trying to cast a chassis.
So one of the projects I have wanted to try is making a carbon fiber chassis. This will have 2 steps: making a mold then making the part.
I had in the past tried creating a 'buck' for molding. I simply lack the skill and workspace to make an...

Outside finished. There is one dry spot that did not get enough resin.
The chassis weight in at 4.4oz vs 4.8 for the stock. It’s going to loose a little more when fully trimmed down. It’s not exactly a huge weight savings.
I have access to carbon fiber and a vacuum system to make a chassis of vintage old pan. Any advise out there for thickness of the carbon sheets and designs that may work better for just bashing around or maybe a custom DS build?
Thanks...
Like the title says i keep seeing old thread and build of rc10 with carbon fiber tubs and they all look great but from what i seen all the companies that did make them either stop or dont exist any more is this correct or is there still one company...

If the stealth holes are drilled and countersunk properly, there's no way to know what it started as. Especially if they countersunk the motor guard holes too.
Thanks. So the chassis blanks are the same and only the pattern that changed.
reading about pan cars, may be opening an indoor track near me, now i have an excuse to buy one :D . just saw this link looking at some specs for the XRAY.

I dont like the way they use the glue on the plastic, that is a disaster waiting to happen. Personally I like to use a small bottle cap.
Also a lot of 1/12 guys like to really round the edges of their chassis so they don't drag on the carpet. This...
Place holder for now. Opener to a carbon chassis. working on a buck and a vacuum system to pump out a few or many. Pics to come soon. This will run in tandem with the 4wd interpretation I'm working on. if it works out.

Waiting for paint to harden the $%#@ up :)
So i can do some wet sanding then buffing and still looking for some prepreg,
So for future readers. When I got to this step I had a failed pull. Basically no standard paint will work. An epoxy based...
im looking at haveing a new chassis made out of carbon fiber but I want it with no cutouts for the cells. I was wondering what people might think about this in terms of stiffness and handling. Has anyone come across one or had one let me...

I didn't think it would make a massive difference as I was going to remove the top deck bracket to help with a bit if flex. I was just trying to tap into the wealth of knowledge on here
