Depends on what kind of track you want to beat the optimas on and what your driving capabilities are.
If you're up to it keep it short and lively, but if you're slow like me ...

When I got home yesterday and was thinking of mounting the rear trailing arms it seems I made a mistake making the gearbox plate. First I increase the wheelbase with 4mm with an option to adjust it with 6 more mm. In order to do that I had to move gear box a few mm. So I did, but the wrong why. I mowed it forward instead of backwards… This wasn’t good; it sets me back a couple of weeks… Because I have to whit to next weekend before I can make a new one.

I was thinking to install the ball diff but I still whiting for the Avid Revolution bearings, but they should arrive any day now. Any of you guys have any experience of toes Revolution bearings. Are they better than the metal-shield bearings or just more drag? :?:

As I thought, the Avid bearings did arrived today, so now I can start with the gearbox.
Obviously I will use my Thorp differential #4630 and I will also use Thorp gear set #4670. And I will use a mid mounted motor if I can get the rear right shock to fit as I hope it will do! The motor plate is custom made by Dwayne, the guy that makes all the Scorpion repro-parts I have mention in my CRP/Turbo Scorpion Racer thread. Another problem is to get a gear-cover to fit.

A lot of the mid motered 4WD buggies don't use a gear-cover. Then again they have a pretty well sealed up body with tight-fitting bellypan. I don't suppose you want to go there now you've got those carbon bars. though you could leave the bellypan clear to show off the frame.

Pretty cool on the mid motor but how will that Thorp Ultima counter gear and center gear mesh up? Did you adjust the position of the center shaft with the custom motor plate? :o

This supposes to be a racecar first of all, so I have no problem covering the CF railing or any other parts.
A under tray is on my to-do list, and will be reedy any year now. I wish I had more time, then I had made a new body based on the Tomahawk with a under tray and integrated gear cover. I have half done own designed body that will fit the Scorpion. But due to buying a country house 1½ years ago with some need of renovation, are all my weekends booked. That was a promise to my wife that I will honor at least till most of the needy renovation is done. :?

I will use the Ultima UM-5 gear shaft set together with the customized motor plate.

Yeah but the counter gear and the small gear on the back of the center gear are different sizes for the Ultima and Tomahawk aren't they? That would make the distance between the centers of the gears different and in order to get the right mesh you'd have to move the shaft for the center gear on the Tomahawk motor plate.

Did you do that?

You are right; they have a larger diameter than Kyosho Tomahawk. The reason I choose those is because the gearbox isn’t symmetric. So I asked Dwayne for help, we had already had a cooperation on other parts that he sells on eBay.

I figured if I use Ultima gears I would be able to compensate for the 8mm difference.

So I asked Dwayne if he could make a mix between Tomahawk and a Maxxum FF motor plate, and he could, but this is not the final motor plate…

Sorry Bo, but this setup won’t work on your TS unless you change your gearbox and cut up the white tube and a few outer things that I will return to later 8)
