Well I finially got the rear clamps, but I think something is wrong, because with the spacer and the clamps there is too much end play in the axles. I will post pics in a few min. I am going to put the wheels on for now, but what do you think is wrong.

Here it is with the wheels on, I am really starting to like how it is turning out!!! It looks pretty good even with that broken up trashed body that I repaired and painted, I may paint the new one similar once I get to that point. I still need the turnbuckles. I may try the RB5 ones as I found lunsford ones all the time on ebay for about $25, I just have to check lunsfords site to see their lengths.

I may need some low proflie wheel nuts for the front because they don't thread on far enough to hit the nylon part. But I may leave them alone, they will stay on.

It looks pretty good. It almost looked like the axle pins were smaller than the holes. Maybe that's part of the problem with the play?

The axle pins are the correct size, its just that there is play as you can see in the pic where the spacer is not close to the hub at all.

Looks like you can add another bearing in there to assist with the play :?:
AKA ( settin03 R/C hobbies and more ) on Ebay

Since being on this site I have found that I have too many parts and R/C Models. Please help me get rid of them. ;-)

Oh I see what you mean. Maybe two spacers are needed?

Remember, these axles are for the RB5 rear hubs, not the Old original ultima hubs. There is no guarantee they have the same dimensions (as hou have found out) you just need some more spacers, and you should be good. -Jeff

I think I pushed an O-ring from a shock sealing over the axle before pushing it through the bearings.
At the the end of the axle close to the CV joint is a little recess on which the O-ring sits.

The advantage is the axle sits a little further inwards so the bone end of the CVD sits neatly in the drivecup. Another advantage is that should the drive get pressed under full suspension compression , the O-ring absorbs the shock which otherwise destroys the ball bearing

Put some spacers on the axle, either inside the hub or outside, to get rid of as much drive shaft plunge as possible and call it a day ;)

Here is a question that is not related to my CVD issue

What parts fit this original chassis from A and L? I talked to the guy at factory works, and he said he wasn't sure what fit becasue all the parts were for the flat chassis ultimas?

I think I found the fix, you use 1 blue spacer on the inside of the hub, and one blue spacer on the outside like normal and add the clamps, makes a perfect fit, no play at all! Now I need to get some more blue collars for the other side.

I'm glad I didn't have to cut or modify anything to make this work, my goal was to use parts that just bolt on without mods, so far so good.

As I said: put an O-ring (shock seal) on the inside and you won't need that extra pair of blue spacers.

I did see your post about the spacers, I just didn't want to have to use a bunch and make it seem funky, but these 2 spacers work perfect.

I think the seal would have to be pretty thick.
