Castle is releasing a 9000kv motor

Post by THEYTOOKMYTHUMB »

It can run 2s, but not 3s. That's just under 100,000 RPMs. You may have to take your car to the salt flats in Utah to have enough room for that kinda speed. I can't wait to destroy a car with it! :D

Yeah i'm running a similar motor with a mamba max now, best to stock up on idler gears, and as soon as you hear that crunch stop the car so the munched idler doesn't go around and munch the diff gear

If you can only run 2s wouldn't that be 7.4v so 66,600 rpm max?

You're exactly right! I got so excited I figured at 11.1 3s. It would almost be worth it to see if the 9000 would hold together for a couple of 3s passes.

Just to interject and ruffle the feathers....

I have been following the 1/8th scale conversions and discussions, and they all seem to be leaning toward the low Kv motors. Better efficiency and run time. Personally I have a Novak 6.5, 10.5 and Mamba 4600, and I have to say the best by far is the 4600. The 6.5 is crazy fast, but way to hard to drive, the 4600 on the other hand, is still got plenty of top end, but much more controlable getting there.

Food for thought..

I totally agree. The hi kv are only good for ridiculous speed runs. I have 2 5700 Castles, but the 4600 is much more enjoyable for day to day use. I have a B3 that I will run with a 2s pack and a Tamiya 540 bag motor that draws one amp. I gear it super low and take it on walks when my wife talks me into going. :( I've gotten close to 2 hrs of runtime on a 6000mah pack. It's fun as hell just to torque the thing around and go over little jumps and stuff. I like to take it out back when I'm smokin' some ribs or somethin' too. I even talk my wife into taking the wheel from time to time.

I have a Castle 5700 and love it!
The higher KV motors can only handle 2S LIPO's,but the 5700 can handle 3S's

I can't even imagine a 9000kV motor.

Recently I got a good deal on 3 lightly used Mamba max setups-- 4600, 5700 and 6900. I run 2s lipos.
The 5700 is insanely fast-- at our local track I get 1/2 throttle max on most of the track and that is geared lower than any mod motor I've tried there (mainly 13t). I will race that in my stadium truck next year.
The 4600 is a great all-around motor and will probably go in one of my Hotshots or one of the gold pans.
The 6900 is just nuts.... I've tried it in my stadium truck and I couldn't keep the front end on the ground. I threw it in my Grasshopper and burned off 1/2 of the tread on a new set of Hornet tires on a loose dirt track with ONE nimh pack!! I went back to a brushed motor in the 'hopper and am saving the 6900 for next year when the local track gets onroad going again-- now I just need to buy something to put it in! ;)
The preceding contained opinions, beliefs and thoughts that all may not agree with. No offense was intended at any point. Carry on.

We've had good luck with the Novak Light series motors we've tried. Plenty of top end, but a little more subdued acceleration, a little easier to use off road. Kinda like a double or triple wind brushed compared to the regular brushless, which is more like a single wind brushed if that makes any sense.
