Cure for the itch (RC10GT)

As of late I've had a real itch to run an old RC10GT again. Parts for the old tub trucks seem to be plentiful and quite cheap at the moment so if something goes wrong fixing it shouldn't be a problem. I haven't run a GT in probably 10 years and remember them being extremely reliable, fun and never had a problem (always had OS).

With the possibility of buying another GT to replace it I decided to pull an old race truck off the shelf to turn into a runner. There is nothing really special about it besides having the vintage "race car" look.

I'm a bit torn whether to use a modern radio or a period correct radio. I'm leaning toward period electronics although that could end badly.

I really like the look of this truck on ebay and thinking of painting a similar scheme.

I prefer to put period radio gear in shelf queens and modern gear in runners. There's too many features available on radios now days to even consider using period gear LOL

With nobody on 27 or 75 anymore it should be smooth sailing...... off into the sunset?

I may try an old radio and if there is any sign of problems I'll throw a spektrum receiver in it. I kind of like the idea of rocking up with vintage radio and car and run for the day without a problem while all the people with the latest and greatest cant even get their cars started, or when they do flip it over every bump on the track.

It all started because I had a spare engine, pipe, tank, body and quite a few bits to turn a parts truck into a runner. So far I took the OS CV-R out and replaced it with the spare engine which is a Rossi Picco Speed 12. I also replaced the new pipe, tank, bumper etc with good used items to run.

It has a FT blue chassis and nose plate, Trinity trans brace, MIP 4-n-1 clutch, CVD's, Lundsford turnbuckles and a few other bits and pieces.

What radio would you use? I'm guessing with the parts the truck is 1997ish vintage?

Magnum definately looks the coolest. I should also have a JR XR3 somewhere but they are too modern in my opinion.

I ended up installing the JR XR3 as the manual is dated 1998 and fits the time period. Electronics are a pretty neat little package, receiver is a JR R133 to match, JR Z590 metal gear for steering, JRZ270 for throttle. I'll pick up a receiver pack for it tomorrow. I also cut out the typical cooling holes in the body so it's pretty much ready to go.


Any other ideas for paint schemes?

Hey RJ just caught this thread. That's a pretty nice looking truck you got there. Would look sweet running around the track with a 90's theme paint job on it.

I like the concept on the body you posted but not a fan of the colors. Needs brighter colors and better fades.

Thanks Todd, It's not perfect but still a pretty tidy truck. If it was any better I probably wouldn't run it. I'm really looking forward to running it, but not thrash it.

Although I shouldn't have I gave in and bought a new starter box, I didn't feel like using my old torque master 90 with "wood" box.

I charged the receiver pack and set up the electronics - It's ready to go. I don't mind the colors in the first photo but think there needs to be more shading in the front. I also really like showmans paint job, really rich colors.

I could do another box art but I already have that paint scheme on my T4.2.

I've hit a snag with the body and don't have a spare to run it with. She's ready to go though, box is charged, batteries charged etc.

My other GT arrived the other day which I hope to share soon when I gather a couple of parts for it, plus another on and off project is taking all my money.

Check out the Tower Hobbies ST15 body. It's a 99% perfect replica for less than $20 shipped. I don't know if you already saw my old posts about it. I need to update it, but I'm 99.9% sure the Tower body is made with the original GT mold, and I have the evidence to back it up, just haven't got around to taking pics, etc.
