B4 slipper has a pad either side of the spur gear so should give some improvement, you could also fit the VTS slipper. Probably biggest advantage is that the B4 parts are more readily available, compared to the old Stealth parts.

In the case I go with a full restore

Doe anyone remember if the steering kit also eventually came in black? I just can't remember...
Thank for the compliment ,The steering kit was made in black, there is an example on a "C" stamp all black CE in the 25 year history, in the buggy tread.

good looking car, i would run it. that's why you bought it in the first place. Put some electronics in it and have some fun get it dirty, break some parts and rebuild it.

It all depends on how sentimental you are..

If it were me, I'd just restore it to the same condition that it was in when you last used it, only replacing broken or missing parts as required, and put it on the shelf.. If you've had this since you were 10, its a big part of your childhood..

You've already gone out and bought a "beater" off eBay.. Modify that with all the "go fast" bits, and make it your runner..

Cheers

I think that's the best plan yet - get it back to the condition of last use with the electronics that I last had in it

Gathering up some bits and pieces on the Bay

Gonna make a runner out of the beater car - thinking of a military type theme (like a desert matte tank with some white and metal bits)

So, for my own car, I am going to try and get it to "shelf my boyhood" status and put in the old electronics

For my runner...well here's a preview of the madness - anyone else go through a similar process when thinking of a car? This is my first "custom" build so this should be fun. There's a pile of parts about to arrive on my parents' doorstep so when I arrive in August I can build like crazy. Can't wait.

Among the large pool of parts, I just picked up a Hobbywing ESC / motor combo

ESC is the SC8 Waterproof, motor is the EZRUN 4700 kV

http://www.ebay.com/itm/271211707193?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I know the 4700 is more than enough for racing, and many of the reviews have said the 4000 is a better motor for track racing

My question is can I just program the 4700 to perform more like a 4000 on the track. Also, if I just drive it easier, will the battery life be similar? The main knock I hear on the 4700 is it drains the battery quickly.

I will mainly be bashing, so I want maximum top speed (think long smooth golf course fairway runs). I've picked up two shorty lipo's so when I go out bashing I can have two packs. How would top end compare between the 4000 and 4700, anyone know a rough MPH difference?

You can turn down the throttle EPA to limit the top end, but a higher KV is going to have more torque everywhere, which is usually where guys loop out-

Thanks Reggie, I'm gonna dial it back to 4000. Should still be plenty of fun in there :)

I am wondering for the runner what would be the toughest chassis finish and how to do it. I imagine I need to have the old finish stripped, and then have the chassis treated.

I am thinking I would like it to actually feel like the outside of a tank, if that is possible, like a rough matte finish in desert color (CARC Sand, FS 33531)
