Spoke with Joel and Mark
The last few days I have been speaking with Joel and Mark (of AKA Racing) and it was just like old times! These guys are still like myself... all down to earth.
It was cool to get an email from each of them with the words " A name from the past, How are you doing Ruffy!" or " A blast from the past, how the heck are you and what are you up to lately!"
We each shared where we are at, families, friends, old times and it brought everything back like it was just yesterday. I guess this is what they mean by reminising!
Nothing like the old school to make you feel right at home once again. Funny nonetheless that we spoke of how it felt like just yesterday we were all at the IFMAR Worlds, Detroit Challenge, etc races trying hard to do our very best, and how odd it still is to refer to our beloved B2 and B3 as "vintage" cars, or for Joel, his Ultima and on-road cars we worked on creating in CAD the chassis and parts for at Composite Craft many a long night.
Good times and these guys are truely indicitive of the best of the best, in more ways than just RC cars. Good people and friends for life!
I just wanted to share with you all my sentiments about the emails and calls we shared together just recently, since we are "vintage" or "Old-School" racers from the past that occasionally will still race in the present.
I'm certain it will be the same feeling when I go out one of these days to AE to see Cliff and Curtis again, as well as of many of the old time racers that I can find while out there!

Very cool! I also love how this hobby causes so many good feelings of the past that we forget about due to the rigors of life!

Re: Spoke with Joel and Mark
I don’t know either gent, but I did have a quite pleasant experience with Mark last year. Approached him (at an appropriate time I hope) and told the story of chatting with his Aunt and Uncle at the ’91 Sterling Heights (Detroit) Worlds.
Also noted he received a warm response during introductions, undoubtedly many there did know him.
I don’t think it’s unusual, I’ve had the chance, mostly by geographical luck, to race and chat with many National level name drivers, several Worlds winners as well. The top guys have always treated me well. (And the same for every other form of racing I’ve dabbled in)
I’m biased big time, but I’d like to think that it’s something to do with racing, a humbling experience that tends to weed the bad guys out.
That said, Mark deserves the respect and recognition for being a good sport all on his own.

I wish I had a chance to have a talk with these people, but then I'd be mumbling and looking for my words and make a fool of myself...
wow... Magic and Pavidis... two of the greatest ever

No we did not get into that, there were so many things we could cover that current sponsorships seemed unimportant.
