For Xmas I bought my 11 y/o son his first real RC car kit to build (Kyosho Ultima re-release, and bought 2 of everything so I can play along). I built mine already so I can answer his questions as he goes along.
For the initial setup I bought a 20T...

SkyRC makes the Leopard Toro motor & ESC combos in many versions. I'm running the 12T Leopard Toro combo, which is affordable and plenty of power for a RWD car, even with this combo I had to dial the Punch back quite a bit.
Just took my Kyosho Plazma RA for a spin & without enough traction I can barely get past 50% throttle before I spin. It's a bit over-powered with the TEAM ORION VORTEX 3.5T brushless motor . I'm wondering how it'd do in my Turbo Optima re-re...

A 10.5 turn would be an ideal motor for the optima. Not too fast, not too slow.
Any one that knows how many teeth there are on the belt pulleys from the optima rerelease

I am building an original with Rere drivetrain as a runner. Rere ball diff in the rear, retrofitted one-way in the front, rere gearboxes, slipper and blue spur and 41 tooth pinion on the motor. Everything else, other than the rear shock tower and...
Anybody no if the universal shafts for the re-re optima will work on an Optima mid?

The modern stuff is pinned vs the taper, but on the ultima for example both vintage and modern axles fit just perfectly in our trailing arms so I doubt there is much dimensional difference
Any thought about the Optima rerelease with latest hop ups such as clutch, gunmetal gear set for powerful brushless and lipo, ball diff with belt and few others, and up against other successful belt drive from the company?

I never owned any optima in the past or its derivatives. This is because I loved my tamiya /op up boomerang back in the time. I have bought the Kypsho Rocky for fun back in th mid 87 and drov n it for short period of time.
I finally got a new Ultima kit to build. This will be my first Kyosho build and I am excited to see what they have done to improve these 80's classics.

Its an expensive way to go just to mount a switch but our Factory Works upper chassis also replicates the original styling and adds some strength
That would be a great way to go, but it isn't in the budget right now :( I'll have to servo...
Good evening all,
So I just got my first Kyosho kit, a Turbo Optima Gold and I'm really looking for ward to building it! I think I have all the bits I need, but I have a question about the silicone oil for the diffs. The manual says it can take 5k...
I am very torn between these two for my next car and need some help deciding one way or the other. I am equally sentimental about both as I couldn’t afford either back in the day.
I am looking for a 4wd Classic to bash around with. As far as I can...

This is my first post to the forum since I am not typically active in contributing to any social media sites but I have enjoyed this forum for a long time, been inspired by the creativity I have seen, and learned quite a bit. I thought...

I agree with that, XLR8. I have not read any downside to boiling either (except for the extra work involved), and absolutely true that nylon loves water. That was also why I contacted Kyosho about the wheels to make sure they would not melt or...
Just ordered a Ultima and wanted to know if anyone has any luck using a Tomahawk or Turbo Ultima body with out much modification on the Ultima. Thanks.

Very helpful. Love the Ultima and love the TU body so all good. Thank you kindly.
I've been planning to buy a Kyosho re-issue for awhile now. I finally got the money...2 days after the Ultima kits sold out at Tower  I know I can get it elsewhere, but I'm already pushing my budget so the coupon codes make a big difference...

Thanks for the responses.
Obviously the Ultima will be the better performer. I was just curious about how the Tomahawk compared to the Tamiya buggies of the same time period. My FAV already has oil dampers on the rear which helped with the bouncy...
I’m currently in the process of rebuilding an Original Turbo Optima, and between that and my original Optima, I basically have another chassis in parts that I’m thinking could be used to assemble what would resemble a Javelin.
This car was the unicorn that I could never have. It came out when I was 13, and there was no way my parents would cough up the money to get it for me. I also had strict rules in my house to focus on school and baseball so I couldn't even get a job...

I'll post when I get back into it...I took the E-Revo out in some serious mud & I've gotta get that sucker cleaned up before I can dive back into the Optima build.
Hello...my name is Adam,
I recently built my 1st Kyosho kit, a re-re Turbo Scorpion and was thoroughly impressed. I do have an original Javelin that I bought a decade ago, disassembled it and reassembled it from scratch...it is now a shelf-queen,...

JT, I think that running an RC buggy with a 5700kV motor would be like running your kart with this motor.

Not having much luck looking up power supplies for the re release cars so i thought i'd ask here and hopefully start a good thread to discuss power systems for our re release interests.

Hey Guys,
Thank you so much for all the info and the way you all put things into perspective for me.
All made so much sense to me now and I do have the Trackstar 13.5 combos. My Turbo Optima has a Reedy 19t brushed motor that scoots. For the...
Has anybody experienced a tight gearbox in the Scorpion/Tomahawk re-release? I was putting mine together last night and with the cover screws backed off 1/4 turn the gears spin nice and free. When I add that last 1/4 turn to snug it up, the gearbox...

Yep i remember straightening a time or two with my original Tommy.

So i was going to buy another Tommy to have, but decided to just buy some of the optional pieces...
I'm getting very close to jumping into my first Kyosho re-re, and I'm struggling to decide which model to get between the Scorpion, Turbo Scorpion or the Tomahawk. I like the Tomahawk the best of the three except that I think it looks goofy without...

For as long as possible I was trying to figure out a way to retain the exhausts as well but in the end just said, screw it!
Also had to cut a lot more than planned for the rear shocks as I'm using the carbon LWB kit.
Maybe a simple question, but one that gets conflicting answers. Has anyone yet put the new gears in and older car? I dont mind if some machine work is involved but I dont need to spend $$$ on parts that have no way of fitting :)
Share some of my modifications done to Optima and scorpion....

I suppose it's easy enough to check. If after a good run your motor is warm and the motor guard isn't, neither the guard or the fan is doing a whole lot of cooling. :)
Okay, this is only the 3rd Kyosho I've owned ever and the 1st in nearly 30 years so this is somewhat new to me. Can any of you vintage Kyosho aficionados out there identify what this part is and what it does? There's a hook-like feature so perhaps...

To convert the Original Optima into 2016 gear/diff spec. will set you back 100-120 USD + 30-40 for the counter sunk plates.
Regarding the Pro Xrt, I´d go for either a Lethal Weapon, a Triumph or a RB transmission - None of those are plug and play,...
I am seeing the Javelin re-re roll cages on Ebay. I see 4 colors (orange, green, white, and yellow). Has anyone bought one and tried to fit it onto a vintage Optima/Javelin? Does it fit? I assume it doesn't in the back, but how much modification is...

They have both needed parts (OT250 and OT251) in stock now on the Kyosho America website.
Does anyone feels like the rear shocks on the optima/javelin rere should have a thiker oil? I finished building my car and when I drop it on the table from about 20cm, the rear bottom bangs on the table. I filled the shocks according to...

Thicker oil or piston rings with smaller/fewer holes, either will help. You may need stronger springs to make sure the shocks fully decompress after changing those items.
If the oil is too thick or the piston holes too small, you'll probably get...
Anybody here have any info on what's next for a Kyosho rere? I know it would be here if somebody knew but then again maybe not :). Kyosho has always been my favourite brand for their cool 80's/90's cars and I will continue to buy anything they...

It'd be great to at least have a reasonably priced aluminum or graphite chassis again. (for random projects and resto's) :D

If they do re-release the Ultima, hopefully they release hop-ups too (especially a graphite chassis). Or better yet, just re-release the Ultima Pro. :D

Hey guys, I picked this up last week from A-main. Using their $30 discount code, I think it was around $225 shipped. I have a new original tomahawk but I bought it basically finished a few years back, so this was my first Kyosho build in my 30 years...

They have included in the kit two 2mm thick spacers to place between the chassis rails and the...

Technically, if Kyosho created a new mold for the reissue Optima body, the reissue body may be considered different (even if similar). I can't speak for every mold Kyosho once had. Maybe they used the original body mold in the case of the Optima....

Thank you I'll give that a try. Just to be clear, the bend in the axle will roll forward slightly and be parallel with the frame rail bend? The frame angle is the kickup right? Any link with some photos? Thank you again!

I need front and rear wing arms, chassis brace plates, bearings, etc. Does anyone no if the parts will fit the vintage Assault, Advance or even turbo scorpion?

Some original parts is darn hard to find and expensive as body's and Beetle/Assault wheels. :(
So this is how it ended up.
For now it´s got narrowed 2,2 truck rims at the rear.
Hopefully I´ll come across a set of 2 or 1,9 rims with the right offset.
