Towers ST-15 and Ultima

Post by AYKBOBCAT »

Can someone tell me what parts the two kits are sharing? I'm just starting to restore an Ultima. Do the trannies use the same gears? What about dog bones? what else??? Thanks

I've been wanting to try the diff but haven't gotten there yet.
The other gears are not shared.
I should be able to help out with NOS on all but the diff gears soon. 48dp pitched diffgears for the kyosho balldif also.
Shoot me a pm if that's of interest to you.

For the dogbones: you better spend a little more and get the RB5 CVD's instead.

So what's the story? Did Kyosho make the ST-15 for Tower (?)

Definitely interested in finding out how to upgrade my car... By the way how do you fit modern 2.2 tires in the front?

huh, that diff looks identical to me. Are you sure we're looking at the same car?
I'll count the teeth if possible on the picture , tonight.

for 2.2 wheels there are a couple options but they fall in 2 categories:
use 2wd rims with bearings in the rim
or go 12 mm hex and use (narrowed) 4wd rims upfront.

I'm in office hours now, so let me get deeper into this later.

I just took apart the three cars I bought for parts with the hope of rebuilding a decent one. I had two trannies both with ball diffs.. :D Did I hit something rare for Kyosho or are the ball diffs common?

The trannies need to be rebuilt and one was full of sand inside  the idler gear is very mashed up... So what's my best option to find new gears?

well if you have the balldiff parts, I can get you every gear you need in that gearbox, all in 48 pitch. I'll get you the details over: send me a pm with your mail address.

Wow, that diff does look very similar. The only parts I'm sure that fit are the shock towers and plastic suspension parts.

I thought the wheel axles and hexes would work also for the ultima, but from mikes remark on the outdrives of the diff, I'm not sure anymore. Kind of nice and cheap to upgrade from the friction fit hexes if they would work. But as said , for performance I'd take the RB5 CVD's
Turnbuckles, screwsets, arms front and rear, uprights front and rear, steering knuckles and front axles are good also, shocks should be ok too, the rear mount for the hingepins should work aswell. Steering set is good: Mike has tried it for fit, I'm using it on a different car and it works well. Bumper will work too, but looks a bit different.

Now AYK, if you got one chassis left in the end, you should try to build a truck from it. Go stadium truck with ST15 body mounts, wheels and tires, (plus mt4 axles and rc10t arms if you like extremes), or go CORR: using traxxas wheels and tires and the bolink body a member here reproed. (I got one on order to try for size already)

the dogbones will fit. the axle carriers require the hex hub since its notched.

Shock towers fit
Front Bulkhead Fits
Bumper Fits
Steering Knuckles and Castor Blocks and Front Axle and kingpins
Front Arms work
rear Arms work
Hinge Pins work
Rear "hinge pin holder" works
Steering works perfect (along with steering posts, but may need a spacer/washer

i got a bunch of ultima parts leftover and 2 spare cars i am restoring also if ya need any parts.

Here's My resto mod ultima, radio plate is custom made along with some other stuff.. focused on functionality rather than box art originality.

Thanks for the info...

those threads motivated me to buy an Ultima.... Great car by the way. For now I may just need a good source for gears.

Where can I find an online manual for the Turbo Ultima? or at least a part listing? I did see a manual for the Ultima a while ago but can't find it anymore.
