Hello from Illinois
I haven't done any radio control racing since the late 80s. My first car was a Futaba FX10, had an RC10, ninja, then my last car was an RC10 graphite. Built the Graphite put in electronics, and motor. Then I don't remember what happened but it has sat for 35+ years. I can remember the unobanium, which, for me, was the Schumacher Cat. My current goal is to unload the Graphite and purchase a Schumacher Procat. Trying to get everything straight since so much has changed. Looking to absorb as much information as I can from the community here. Thank you and have some patience with this older racer.

Welcome! I too would like a CAT. The ProCAT also looks cool. You don't think your Graphite would be nice sitting next to a CAT...? Any pictures of the Graphite?

The CAT was unobtainium for me, too. I was very lucky in that I got back into RC while the Masami re-re was available.
The ProCAT is arguably the best buy in the re-re market. You won't be disappointed. At 344 (~320 with coupon) it is cheaper than many 2WD buggies (lookin' at you, Associated). Schumacher re-re kits are good quality and very close to the original designs. The only issue I have had with any of the Schuey re-res is the notch in the shock pistons is cut pretty randomly (sometimes not cut at all
). Use the correct screwdriver. The screws are ok, but using a Phillips head screwdriver greatly increases the chance of stripping one.
You only need the Pro transmission if you run insane power and/or run on a high grip modern track. I have a 10.5 in mine with the standard transmission, but I only run on my home track.

Do Schumacher builds like the ProCAT typically have some extra parts left over like other brands do? Springs, screws, etc. Sorry to take this welcome thread on a tangent.

I always have extra screws and e-clips. One of my 7 re-res had an extra diff ball. The re-res have battery mounting options, so there are some unused parts depending on the style of battery you choose. The Cougar 2 Works has extra shock parts. It is sort of a Tamiya thing, where they just give you the parts tree even though you don't need all of it. You can choose between the original "vari-pistons" or any of several fixed pistons, and there are a few things that don't fit the car but are on the tree.
My LD3 came with lots of extra shock pistons and spacers as tuning options.
The original Cougar 2 "Racing" back in the early 90s came with a full range of shock springs.

I also found a JG MFG monster truck conversation kit in the Graphite box for the rc10.
It has a Tekin Pro Tempfet ESC probably the 600 model. I sent a email to Tekin to try and figure out the model and he was thinking 600. Motor is a reedy modified green. I haven't taken it out to get a better look. Radio system is a Futaba magnum junior 2 servos and receiver. All this stuff is completely unused for something like 35 years. It's dusty but still like new. Box is rough. Futaba box is fine. I have the manuals for the rc10, radio, and ESC.
Wheels and tires are missing but I know I have seen them but we moved a few years ago and I think they are in a box somewhere. I don't have a clue where the body is, 35 years I hard on the memory.

I contacted Schumacher and ask about the motor because just about everywhere says 17.5 limit with kit transmission. But on the Schumacher site it says "Motor (Max 13.5T limit with kit transmission, 6.5T with optional pro transmission" there numbers refer to a brushless motor. Being a old newbie I didn't realize that the turns on a brushed and brushless aren't the same. Yeah the price on a Procat was what caught my eye. The L1R is almost 200 more. The cougar classic isn't a bad price either for a 2wd. It pains me that I missed the Cat XLS and Top Cat. The cost of those now are ridiculous.

Welcome to the Illinois club! I am in Decatur.. Schumachers were definitely not common around here back in the day. I just want to know what happened to the Ninja??

I believe I sold it to pay for the Graphite. Back in the day we a a hobby store in Pana it had a carpeted banked oval on the 2nd floor. I need to make a trip to the rc shack in Decatur, I'm about 35 miles south.
