The 1998 Reedy Rage 24 ad was a lesson in foreshadowing. Racers were presented with a larger than life look at all of the technical innovations that were incorporated into the new motors, such as the revised can venting, dual rotor armature, vibration dampened laydown brushes and 24 degrees of timing in the locked commutator that met ROAR stock class rules. But in the lower left corner was a hint of what was to come. In 1999 both ROAR and NORRCA would approve the use of rebuildable motors for stock racing classes. Nearly as pivotal as the institution of fixed timing at the beginning of the decade, it only received a small mention in the sealed can Rage 24 ad.
Not mentioned at all was the identical Reedy Conquest with 36-degrees of timing for NORRCA stock class racing.
Note how the bright and playful ads of the early '90's had become dark and sinister by the late 90's:
