This project is inspired by BeastyShout’s “Traxxas Bandit indoor clay race build” and the various excellent mid-motor Slash/Rustler/Bandit builds.

I started with a Nitro Hawk donor car. I want to create a semi-modern mid-motor 2WD Traxxas buggy based on off the shelf hop-up and with minimal custom 3D printer parts.

Off-the-shelf parts:
  • Hot Racing Black Pro Rear Axle Carriers TE22N01
Hot Racing Black Aluminum Multi Mount Caster Blocks TE1901
Hot Racing Hardened Chrome Plated Caster Block King Pin Set HRASTE04HP
RPM Rear Heavy Duty A-Arms Black RPM73282
RPM Front Heavy Duty A-Arms Black RPM80492
RPM Front Bearing Carrier Set for Traxxas 2wd Black RPM80372
FastLane Machine Rear Adjustable Arm Mount -1 deg FLM21000
    R-Designs Traxxas 2wd Front Shock Tower - RDD4111
Traxxas Rear FiberGlass Tower TRA3133 (2x sandwich together for rigidity)
ST Racing Concepts Polished Steel Hinge Pin Set for Traxxas w/Lock Nuts (Black) SPTST2637BK
Ebay Dynotech Traxxas Nitro Hawk Electric Motor Plate Vintage Trick Conversion
WL Toys L Shape 540 Motor Mount A580045
Traxxas Nitro Hawk Black Trans Case TRA3191 (discontinued)
Traxxas Slipper Shaft w/Spring Pin TRA3793
Traxxas Machined Delrin Drive Gear TRA3195X
    Traxxas Plastic Idler Gear TRA1996
    Traxxas Pro-Ball Diff TRA2520 (discontinued)
Traxxas Big Bore Shock Complete Set TRA5862
Traxxas Nitro Hawk\Buggy\Street T6 Aluminum Tub Chassis TRA3130 (discontinued)
Traxxas Nitro Hawk\Buggy\Street T6 Aluminum Nose Brace TRA3131 (discontinued)
Traxxas Nitro Hawk\Buggy\Street Aluminum Chassis Bar TRA3129 (discontinued)
3d Printed Parts
  • One piece TRX-1 front bulkhead modified to accept standard Traxxas 2wd arms and shock tower. (Remixed from rcnand’s “Traxxas TRX-1 Front Bulkhead Set” on Thingiverse)
    Transmission to Chassis base plate
Rear shock tower mount and braces.
This is still a WIP, I am working on a 180 deg bellcrank set up to move the steering servo forward and figure out battery placement. I also need to figure out what I want to do for drive shafts among other things.
