MRC Baja King Ads

The MRC Baja King, released in 1993, was the stadium truck version of Model Rectifier Corporation's "World Scale" line. Designed as a racing model the kit came equipped with bearing in both the transmission and wheels, a low mounted stadium truck body, and no electronics.

I don't think they were that big, 1/7 ish maybe? From memory, MRC never listed the scale as the buggies and trucks were similar in size. I remember them from RCCA, but never actually saw one in person. I found this photo with a humpback battery (looks to be an 8 cell ) in shot for size reference.

Short answer:

1/8th scale

Long answer:

The Nitro Thunder King was advertised as 1/8th scale and shared the same 14 inch wheelbase as the electric Thunder King and Baja King "World Scale" trucks... which, like 1911Colt mentioned, never had a fractional scale listed.

The math on the wheelbase works out to 1/8th scale too.

A 1/7th scale truck would have a 16 inch wheelbase, very close to the 15.87 wheelbase of the Desert Thunder buggy, and likely where the connection to 1/7th scale originated.

I love the MRC World Scale items.

I always thought they were 1/7 scale as well.

I have a really nice Thunder KIng runner and a NIB Thunder King and a NIB Desert Thunder.

The previous owner of the Thunder King I have that is NIB came with metal heat treated RC4WD gears. Which was part #Z-G0048

Does anyone know what size tires the Thunder KIng takes? The one I have are deflated and need to be replaced.

At the time I remember it being a new oddball scale they were trying to have catch on that never did. My favorite was the Baja King due to never seeing a stadium truck that big before. It just seemed so awesome to me. I mean it still does.

I don't know about replacement tires but I think a lot of models these days have comparably sized tire/wheel combos if you don't mind changing both. I once came across a website where someone hopped up a Thunder KIng using all modern truggy parts I believe they were which conceivably converted it into one. It looked terrible to me, but showed what could be done with them.

The tires are Imex Dirt Dawgs and they are a perfect fit for the stock wheels, as are most of the E/T-Maxx sized tires.

Or... MRC's part numbers should you decide track down some original tires:

Are those T/E Maxx tires known as 3.2" tires as well?

You're welcome.

Early E/T - Maxx tires are 3.2, the newer stuff is 3.8. Switch was around 2006-2007 I think. 4970 is the early 3.2 tire part number.
