Novak RC Analyzer

Post by Frankentruck »

Anyone have access to a manual for a Novak RC Analyzer? Or does anyone have any hobby shop contacts that might be willing to make a copy of their manual? My good independent LHS closed, but maybe I'll ask the Hobby Town people. They might surprise me.

The local Hobby Town had no idea what this is and suggested I look on the internet and ask in some forums. That was some very inspired advice. But I understand, they were just unfamiliar with it.

The Novak analyzer arrived yesterday. I hope to check it out this weekend. The previous owner found another LHS owner that had the operating manual. He scanned it and emailed me a pdf so I think I'm set. I should try the new pdf uploader with this manual, so that next person that gets told to go check the internet has a chance of finding it.

Today is the day to try out the analyzer. To start with, some of the vintage schmutz got cleaned off.

During manual testing with the control stick, my T-1X had up to a measured 33A load from the brushed motor during rapid acceleration. The amp load isn't displayed with the automatic cycle function that cycles full throttle, full brake, full throttle, full brake, etc.

I also tried out BEC test mode. The motor gets brief periodic rotation during this test mode.

In servo test mode, this S3003 servo typically pulled 0.3A during manual full range movement. Extremely aggressive movement could briefly pull 0.4A.

This Bantam Midget would sometimes hang during cycle testing. A replaced connector seems to have fixed the issue, or at least it isn't still happening right now.

For receiver testing, the output pulse width is the item being tested. This R152JE has a neutral throttle position pulse width of 1.51 milliseconds. Full throw in forward and aft needs to be at least a 0.36ms difference in each direction for correct ESC operation. This receiver meets that requirement.

This Tekin Titan would not turn the motor, which I already expected from previous testing. Unfortunately I didn't learn anything new about why, just that it needs repair.

I bought one of these on ebay a few weeks ago. A hobby shop was remodeling and getting rid of stuff. The pictures weren't great but appeared to be all there..
thanks to Frankentruck for sending the manual.

It cleaned up well and is working. Needs some dean's connectors for the motor and battery input.

From peeking inside it's what I would expect. Transformer and voltage regulator for 5V power. Motorola 8-bit MCU and external 12-bit ADC for capturing measurements. 595 shift register for reading the buttons. A few power resistors for loads for taking measurements. The LCD does not have a backlight so not supposed to be lit. It's just a nice mini setup for testing ESC's, servo's & receivers. You wouldn't be able to do any troubleshooting per se, just test to see if working. Perfect for hobby shops. They appear to have asset tags as opposed to serial numbers. I wonder if Novak gave them to hobby shops and didn't formally sell them.

perhaps it was indeed sold. Nothing to stop them from using that style label as serial number label but generally would have model number on it. I'm glad it works I'll definitely post when get around to doing some testing with it.

It's a lot of purple awesomeness from the orange stuff people. Glad you located one. Presumably you've got an AC power cord for the back? It's pretty much just a generic computer power supply cord.
