Putting the Turbo in my Turbo Raider (Brushless Upgrade!)

Post by Snaab9-2 »

I put a $37 Surpass Hobby 9T 4370 brushless combo in it and it got the much needed kick in the pants it needed! The power is just about perfect now! While the top end was pretty good, it had really poor acceleration after going from the stock gearing (46 tooth idle gear and 14 tooth pinion) to a 42 tooth idle gear and a 17 tooth pinion gear. Now with the punch set to "soft" it has plenty of acceleration and gets up to a very manageable 36+ mph (probably 37 or 38 mph on a fresh battery).

If anyone is interested, I made 2 videos reviewing the setup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipE6zW2leBY&t=183s If it holds up, it is a great option on a budget! So far it doesn't "feel like it is too powerful. There is a ton more info in the videos and in the descriptions of the videos.

She hit 40+ mph today.... and I am done! As long as that diff holds, it is an outstanding setup for this car!
