restoration of the magnesium motor mount, any tips?

hi all, im restoring a 94 yz10, and wanted to clean the magnesium motor mount up, i want it to look orginal, and dont want to polish it. any suggestions on what the best product or method to use would be?

Glass bead blasting works great then spray a couple light coats of clearcoat on it to keep it from oxidizing again.

I used mothers polish and just polished the tarnish away. I hoped the inbuilt wax would prevent it from tarnishing again but I haven't looked at it in about 2 years.

I just cleaned my magnesium parts in an ultrasonic cleaner (Branson 200) with tap water and mild dish soap. the corrosion and dirt is gone and the surfaces are now smooth to the touch. They still have a tarnished look which I think of as patina and am happy with it. I assemble cars with a little carnauba wax on hand for hinge-pins, and self tapping screws into plastic so everything I touch gets a waxy finish (and smells lemony fresh). Oddly the front bulkhead has a different "look" of shiny silver instead of mid to dark gray.

I'll second Mike's suggestion as I have used it on all my Yok magnesium parts and finished with the light coating of clear, works really good and just to be clear it's "glass beading" not "sand blasting".

I just got an ultrasonic a weekend ago, will definitely have to try this with my magnesium parts I have laying around!

Your front Bulkhead may be Aluminum.

I used a coffee machine descaler powder like (Puly Cleaner), you only need to dip the bulkheads for about 30 seconds, you get a bit of a volatile reaction, but straight out on to clean water. The parts go black, but that washes off with dishwasher powder, you won't believe how silver they come out... mine are better than new!
