Re: Kyosho Nitro Brute Restoration
The engine is an OS cz, not sure if its a .10 or .12 because it looks smaller than my .12cz in my Rampage truck....anyway, the engine and carb were frozen, i soaked it all in nitro fuel then disassembled it soaking and cleaning each part. Its all free now, really smooth. The piston will almost push all the way thru the sleeve, so a repinch is in order unless i can find a
piston/sleeve....but i need to find out which exact engine it is. The carb is tiny, much smaller than my other .12. It just says CZ on one side if case, and OS Max on the other. Any info would be appreciatedTap pic for clarity: Derek

Re: Kyosho Nitro Brute Restoration
I love it!!! My first exposure to nitro was by way of the Nitro Brute. Lot of nostalgia there...
The Nitro Brute used the OS CZ-2 .12 engine. It was similar to the CZ-R that was released a short time after the CZ-2. The 'R' had a higher output. I remember it having a different carb, and a different piston and sleeve.

Re: Kyosho Nitro Brute Restoration
Thanks! Your link to those part #s scored me a
cz-2 piston and sleeve new for $35! I did already package the original up and paid $8 shipping to RayAracing, but he wont charge me the $24 to repinch if he doesnt get the p/s. So i lost $8, no biggie. I also scored a nib .12 cz-r for $75 shipped just in case the cz-2 doesnt work out.

Re: Kyosho Nitro Brute Restoration
I got a parts truck with the purchase, luckily it came with this super rare Thorp axle kit to replace those cheesy plastic stock driveshafts. They were rusty but i got cleaned up pretty good. I rotated this pic 45degrees right, hopefully it straight

Re: Kyosho Nitro Brute Restoration
The tranny wasnt smooth when i got it, and it wasnt smooth when reassembled it. The pinion gear was pushing to hard on the ring gear, so i shimmed it with those little silver shims a few thousands. Also the bevel gears that press onto the axle shafts are pressing to hard on the differential gears....so i shaved a few thousands off the backside of those to get some clearance

Re: Kyosho Nitro Brute Restoration
I really like the rear suspension compared to other trucks of this era. Those rod ends keep the rear knuckle from turning. If u take the rear one off u can adjust toe in or out, not that i am gonna that.

Coming along nicely! Pics are right side up too. I no longer spill my beer when I go to look at them...
