Why do people respond to threads here and all sorts of car forums with "Not my style" or "Not my cup of tea" or "I wouldn't do it" but......nice work anyways.

No one cares if you wouldn't do it, that's not the point of a thread. Just say nice paint, nice wheels or whatever and move on. If you want to share your cup of tea start your own thread.

I don't really like this type of thread but I started it anyways.

I think its ok to point out that you appreciate the craftsmanship even if it doesn't appeal to your own tastes. I'd rather people were honest about stuff I'd done.

If I didn't want opinions I wouldn't post.

I'm just bored so hopefully everyone takes this as just chatting and a philosophical question more than anything. You know RC10talk.com needs some philosophy.

Maybe it's me personally but if my tastes are different then I would start a thread showing my tastes not tell someone else their tastes are not mine.

It would be like saying I think your wife is really ugly, but if you don't, congrats.

I think its just going to vary on the way individuals express themselves. If I see something I don't like I don't tend to tell people, but I'm British. It's an inbuilt trait.

I thought you guys were the quiet polite types. Actually now that I think about it last time I was over there, these two guys from Manchester were sitting in a pub near Paddington station where I happened to find my self and they were the loudest SOB's I'd ever heard.

Pointless to comment on someones build project whether it's their style or not. I've seen it a 1:1 car shows with people walking up to the car and go out of their way to tell me that it's "not their style" or make other comments that make me want to push their head onto the exhaust manifold

Hadn't thought about this. But now that you mention it; I don't think I do that. But I will sure make an effort to STHU if I find myself typing up something like that. Often times I will be typing up a reply and it might be witty (in my mind) or have some other element to it, and then I will just not post it because I really don't like jamming up other folks threads. Have I been an A-hole a time or two? Sure.

AH HA! I remember. I have typed something like, "I'm not an AE guy, but this thing is totally bitchin'"

Not that I care to weigh in on a topic that isn't my thing.

As someone said earlier, it is part of how some people express themselves, though it goes a bit deeper than that, especially here on the internet, the need to tear others down, whether intentional or not.

There is also the context in which the comment is made, for instance, the two guys with 1:1 build threads. I'm not into either of those make/models, however, I can absolutely appreciate the time, expense, and skill that has gone into their creations. Is it necessary or wrong to express that the vehicles themselves are not my thing, probably not, but in so doing, I think the take-away should be, "hey, this guy may not like this make/model of car, but he sees the vision and quality of the work."

Because the one thing you see on so many other forums, all people say is "oh yeah, that's awesome", and encourage stupid ideas. So you end up with a lot of bad decisions being made, and people ruining perfectly good items. I'd rather see someone be honest and point out a fault in a project.

Pointing out a fault can be factual, you have a run in your paint. I don't like Red is just an opinion no one asked for however.

That said the internet does make it easy to tear down. Guy spends 150 hours building something, he knows where the faults are better than anyone and probably doesn't need them pointed out.
