First paint job using liqiud mask

First time using liquid mask. Results are not to bad for a rookie . I just need more practice with the xacto knife and my shading skills still suck .

How many coats of liquid mask did you use? I can't fade worth a crap, no patience, lol.

I sprayed on two coats using a touch up spray gun from harbor freight. Used a heat gun on the first coat and let the second coat dry overnight. My 101 class was a youtube video . My problem with fading I think is to much paint at one time. on the next body I'll adjust the paint flow down and give that a try.

Touche'. Any kind of free-hand paint-scheme is *much* easier to do with liquid mask than with tape. Tape has the edge with straight lines, though...but there's always bleed-through. I've had best tape results with that yellow Tamiya masking tape, it's very thin and sticks better than any other masking tape. That expensive blue 3M fine-line vinyl masking tape? Not so much. With that and any other cheaper masking tape, you'll spend more time scraping up bleed-through than the painting itself.

I'm terrible at fades, too--though that's all about airbrush technique, nothing to do with masking. My technique is that of a rookie.

You need two or three good coats of liquid mask if brushed on--being careful not to brush it on too thick and pool in nooks & crannies, as it'll take forever to dry, and also not to have it too thin--which makes it rip & tear when trying to pull it off, which is a pain.

I airbrush it on with about 7 or 8 thin coats, and it uses about 2/3 or 1/2 the amount of liquid mask. I'll have to confirm but you have to thin it with water or Windex to the consistency of milk.

Yeah it does!!!

Nice clean lines with the liquid mask. I haven't used it myself, but maybe someday.

Also keep in mind with fades you don't want a high air pressure as it will create splatters. I usually drop my pressure lower when when I do fades and small details.
