Raising an old RC10 from the dead... it needs updating

Post by gregw74 »

I'm in the process of trying to resurrect my classic RC10 and I'm stumped :( The world of RC is definitely a bit different from what I recall, and rightfully so. I never took the car beyond it's stock configuration so that doesn't help matters. I would like to take it just a bit beyond the current config, if possible, nothing crazy. It's setup as follows...

Radio: Futaba FP-T2PBKA (http://manuals.hobbico.com/fut/2pb-2pbk-2pbka-manual.pdf)
Servo: Futaba FP-S148
ESC: Futaba MC112B (http://www.tcphotos.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=735&sid=2193&secid=306&t)
Motor: Stock
Tranny: Stock
Everything else: Stock

Components I'm interested in upgrading...

ESC: If I plug in a higher mAh NiMh battery (2000+) I'm afraid the ESC is going to get excessively hot as a result of the longer run times and so perhaps this would be one component worth upgrading? Regardless, it's dated! Is there a specific ESC I should consider, maybe one I can find used on eBay?
Motor: With a new ESC what's a good motor beyond the stock motor? I don't want to ruin the current tranny I just want something a bit better/faster? Brushless I assume is out of the question, that's fine.
Tranny: If I can reasonably upgrade the ESC and motor (within $80 or so?) what upgrades should I make to the tranny, without upgrading the whole thing? Perhaps upgrading some of gears with something more durable??

To whomever can help me out with breathing some new life into this old RC10, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance! :)
Greg

Is it a 6 gear tranny or 3 gear stealth car?
