Like so Many others I got an RC10 for my 12th birthday back in 1987. I built the kit over 3 days under the supervision of my step dad. I learned how to solder, build anti-sway bars and poorly paint bodies. I used an Airtronics radio and the horrible stock speed control. I must have burned myself 939 times on that thing. That poor car ran non-stop terrorizing the cul-de-sac all summer, breaking servo's nose support tubes and a-arms.
I discovered a track called RC Heaven and started racing later that year. I slowly started buying new parts to make it competitive. I raced for roughly 3 years and had a few cars. I had an RC12i and a Bolink eliminator10. I had a blackfoot that I bashed around the neighborhood so I wouldn't ruin the race cars.
Once I started driving and discovered girls they all got sold. I have had a few cars over the years that I have built and played with until I got bored then they would get given away to kids. I bought a 10t rtr but it just wasn't the same. I learned so much from that first RC10, I could probably build one today without the manual.
I bought 2 rock crawlers this year to play with. I started taking them to the track by my house to mess around and now I find myself wanting something faster, with better suspension, something not made out of plastic, you know something Gold. I put the faster of the 2 cars up for sale on Craigslist and a guy asked if I wanted to trade, I told him no that I was selling to buy an RC10, he replied a while later with a picture of an RC10 and the deal was done. I had no idea what it was or if it was beat to death it didn't matter I was getting an RC10!!! I made the trade yesterday and it turns out I've got a Chamionship edition stealth tranny driver. I'm not sure how I am going to build it yet but I am looking forward to it for many years.
Sorry for the long intro and thank you for the great resource.
