Pin retainer or set screw?

Post by MAC10 »

I am assembling the CVA kit 6371 and following the re-release World's kit instructions and I'm a bit confuzzed. It looks like they give you the option to use the pin retainer ring or use the 4-40 set screw. ---"Note: Remove pin retainer to prevent binding if using 4-40 set screw in CVA." So does one way work better than the other and why do they provide both!? I don't really understand why you wouldn't use them both. Anybody have experience here? Thanks!

I run the setscrew and then heat shrink. Always have. I'm not sure how it would bind with the retainer and setscrew, since that's basically the same exact thing as the heat shrink method- but that's what the manual says

The setscrew can offset the pin in the assembly and cause binding.

I don't use the set screw. I use tiny drops of CA glue to lock the gap on the retainer clip 90 degrees to the cva pin.
