RC10GT Electric conversion build. DONE!
Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
Now if I were to make another I would make the plug 1 layer taller and add a bottom plate. A little carbon and blotter wrapped around the plug a bit and made it a pain to extract from the pan. A 2nd plug for drilling would be nice too.

Nice work
Get ready for a flash flood of pm's wanting chassis for everything from rc10's to grasshoppers

It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
that's exactly why when my mom offered to give me one of those food vacuums, I said sure. I'll have to try this out. How is the bottom finish?
Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
The bottom finish is kinda fugly because the peel ply left a flat finish. it's not perfectly flat in a few places that the carbon bunched up where the pan kicks in.
It looked ok wet when I washed the pva off so I may just sand the bumps down and spray a gloss coat on it.

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
Battery died on the phone or I'd have pictures.
I got the pan drilled and counter sunk.
I had to knock the pressed on brake hex off the slipper to get the motor plate to fit.
Front plate, rear tower, suspension, trans and motor are mounted..
I'm just trying to sort where I'll put the battery and steering servo.
Hindsight being what it is I wish I'd made the pan wider to transverse mount the battery.
I think I'm going to vertical mount the steering servo using the throttle servo mounts and move it back a bit so I can run the pack down the center of the pan.

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
I took a few quick pics this morning.
I dug around the old race box and turned up a 32p 14t pinion.. Combined with the 66t spur I get a 12.26 final drive ratio..
It won't be a screamer but it should get around ok and have good battery life.

When I go Lipo that would be a good idea or saddle packs that I could share with the RC10L.
Since it's going to an 8 year old with no experience with a hobby class RC car I decided to keep it slower and simple with a brushed motor and NiMH packs.
That way I don't have to worry about him roasting a Lipo when I'm not home and he wants to run it.
Funny note.. I started this project thinking It would save $$ vs getting a new truck.. I've spent enough now that I could have bought a new SC10 RTR..
I'll just keep telling myself this is cooler
Just for fun I may start working on pan 2.0.. way wider.. maybe the width of the body and an extra ply of 12k biaxial on the bottom..

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
If anyone is wondering that is my old Trinity Monster stock class motor I raced with in 1985.
I upgraded it to bearings when the bushing wore out.. otherwise still a good little motor.

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
MOre parts arrived.. still waiting for the new front bulkhead.
New shock towers.
I got the tires all mounted up on associated SC10 rims.

Getting there
Suspension is all together..
another angle
Body cut and trimmed.. I'll need to make some new mounts or mod these a little.
I tweaked the bumper back into position. Is this right or does it need more or less?
I may also make a carbon chassis brace to tie the trans to the pan.
