Finished Traxxas Nitro Hawk

Post by castradingpost »

Just finished, Wish I had more build pics, but somehow got lost. It was covered with a 1/4" of muck on it when I got it. Love the white plastic!

I've had a few nitrohawks in my time and know the 1/4" of gunk you talk about...it cleaned up nicely  . These make great oval racers 8)

I have one of these that I recently picked up, that will be a "sometime soon" project. Pretty dirty, but under the gunk looks decent...appears to be intact or very close to it. I haven't worked on one of these before...anything to watch out for?
Looks nice!
Mine is all black plastic...not as fancy as this one.

Thanks for the comments guys. These are super easy to work on. They come apart real easy, they really haven't changed much to now. Front end and rear end come off chassis as wholes. The only problem I had was in trying to clean the metal chassis the anondization came off some, so I had to sand and primer and paint and clear. Took about 20 hours or so from start to finish.

for the most part these were pretty solid. The weakpoints were the plastic idler, rear shocktower design and chassis prone to bending in front of the stiffener. 9 out of 10 times you get one of these the chassis is bent. The screws in the front brace to chassis are prone to stripping but nothing a nut on the backside won't take care of.

With the weight distribution and lack of springs this thing was an awesome oval runner. Hammer it out of the corner and they just grabbed dirt and flew.

Very easy to work on...I really miss the simple designs of the gt and nitrohawk era :( .

When I worked at Tammies one of the guys started up a company called C&J Racing Products. He made flat chassis with bent sides like a blue chassis 10GT. He also made a H shaped brace for the rear tower that tied to the ball ends on the bulkhead. Those were some great trucks! It solved the issues of chassis flex, rear tower/bulkhead breaking, and easy motor adjustment. Oh yeah, and they were PURPLE!
It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas
