Why not? Looks good! I've seen other Optimas modded similarly, to alter the wheelbase primarily. The issue for me is the problem with dirt contaminating the gearboxes; unless you want the belt/chain to hang loose, it'd take quite a bit of careful fabrication to seal out the dirt. I've seen one mod where the guy used plastic tubes to fabricate chain-guides.

Perhaps buy up a couple sets of repro mid belt covers, and overlap them to make long enough?

you could also use light gauge aluminum and bend up some c-channel using a small metal brake. harbor freight sells a 18" bench top brake that works quite well and you can get a sheet of aluminum from home depot or hobby shop for cheap. I also use the aluminum and brake to fab alloy wings.

I've seen one optima somewhere where they handled the dirt problem by spltting open the diff cases and basically having nothing sealed. Not sure about that though.

Thanks for the kind words.

As for the belt protection, the lower one for the LWB mid fits fine - I tested it when I did the mockup.

I´ve lowered the top deck so the upper belt runs over it in its entire length.
Right now I´ve got lazer arms fitted and the WB is ca. 281mm.

I´m not sure if I´m going with std. saddle pack or the LiPo ones. The topdeck will need a cutout if I go modern.

Lookin good! What did you craft the tower mounts from? Looks like a front bulkhead of some make?

Thanks Jeff,
Well spotted on the mounts, they´re cut from bulkheads of a Schuey Mi 3,5

I was pretty sure you hadn't bought a mill yet 8) nice repackaging of those. Is there enough meat for the camber rod screw/ball?

No, i didn't just call you a screwball
