FULL CARBON TAMIYA FORMULA 1 SAUBER 103:CHASSIS

Post by Jerzi »

I have now the past month built 2 formulas out of carbon to my friends.
Now I dig my Sauber f1 and start building one to me.
See the pics and please leave some comment of it.
The car is NOT ready yet.

Jerzi, I just hope the girlfriend isn't starving so you can feed your appetite for carbon.

At the hobby store here, a 6" x 12" x 1/4" sheet costs almost $43 (that's a 45% off sale price, no less). A 12" x 12" sheet with the same thickness would be just under $100 (@ 35% off). I know there's eBay sellers who sell for less, but the cost they charge to ship to Canada practically negates any savings...so IMHO, I consider that pretty expensive. :)

And those are just standard panels. If you want stuff for r/c custom laid, it's quite a bit more. The carbon I use from DA Graphite is custom laid for rigidity in the lengthways direction and has some deflection in the width. The layup comes from experience with rc chassis design, a sheet from composite craft, DA, etc is easily double what the generic stuff sells for and it ain't the same! For display nobody would care

The only thing I can say so it is much cheaper to buy carbon than keep the girlfriend happy
You can allways make your own carbon sheet. It is little cheaper.
My carbon plates are top quality.
The 3mm thickness is rigid like a rock.
