Help identifying this body?
This body came with a used Mid Custom Special I got a while back. I just started the resto, so when I pulled out the body I realized its not like the original. Its LWB but its just not the same.
Here are some pix if anybody has seen this one before. I also have the pix of an original OMCS. Box / car / body came from England if that helps. Thanx

I don't know what it is, but I really like the lines. I'd love to paint one of those.

Re: Help identifying this body?
I would think it's a Racecraft body. The sidepod air scoop was pretty common on their shells which were modified versions of copies of the originals.
Here's my Racecraft Mid and Mid Custom bodies, with the same side air scoop.

I think you nailed it terry.sc! I have been collecting optima mid's for some time now and I have never seen one like it. My theory now is that sense they were a cheaper alternative than the
original back then, people just bashed them and threw them away. It looks just like the CS original minus some tweaks and scoops and it even has the CS on the back of it. Sense I have
seen many unpainted originals CS body's the past few years and none Racecraft versions I'm thinking its a very rare piece, maybe one of one.. that I would sell for ONE MIIIIILLION
DOLLARS!!!

Re: Help identifying this body?
The bodies only cost £5.99 while original bodies were £12-18 each, and were available direct from the manufacturer instead of waiting for your local shop to order the body from the importer. Racecraft shells were pretty popular amongst UK racers at the time, but not because they were seen as disposable. The one thing that stood out for Racecraft shells was that they were more durable than original shells, Racecraft supposedly annealed the bodies once formed so they were tougher. I still have most of my Racecraft bodies as they didn't rip and tear like normal shells.Optimusprime wrote: My theory now is that sense they were a cheaper alternative than the original back then, people just bashed them and threw them away.

I've never seen that body before. Are you going to use it for something you're working on? It would be nice to see painted up.

That is some good info terry.sc. All this things I didn't know. So not only they were easier to get and less expensive back then, but also more durable. What's also cool is that you actually purchased some of yours directly from Racecraft and still have.. looking great by the way.

Re: Help identifying this body?
It was the first one I had seen too RichieRich. Right now I was just trying to figure out what it was. I ordered a repro OMCS body to paint for now, but I might paint this one later.RichieRich wrote:I've never seen that body before. Are you going to use it for something you're working on? I think it will look nice painted too.

Re: Help identifying this body?
Here's a photo of a Racecraft Mid shell i picked up a couple of years ago with a Turbo Mid project, air scoop and all. They are certainly a very well made and sturdy bodyshell.
