Cool mid motor conversion. The front bumper is big enough to plow snow.

4 yrs of flat oval racing was a little rough on it. the front bumper was built by my dad because i had two competitors that would team up and not let anyone pass them. so with this bumper i named bubba i would go through them instead of around them. i have some sweet looking aluminum wheels for it that needs to be repolished. i have been looking on ebay for foam tires i used to run on it they had white goodyear logo on it. i will post pics of my battery charger later...it is very unique.

Nice racer you got there! I like the look of it in that configuration, but It looks like the motor plate is bent a little. Do you go through a lot spur gears?

i did that mid motor conversion on my off road rc10 as a kid, i saw it in rccar action. The rc10 is such a versatile car. there was so much you could do to this kit

good catch there i did not notice that it must have bent in storage. never had a problem with the gears or the trans. i will have to get another one when i rebuild it.

here is the charger i used to run. the story behind this is when my dad and i were looking at chargers in tower hobbies catalog he saw the price on them and said f--- that i can build you one for next to nothing. that is the advantage of having an electrical engineer for a father.

it has a timer on it with a recall button. you can also measure amperage and voltage with a flip of a switch.

Image

red switch - on and off
black switch - activates the timer
up and down buttons - changes the timer
silver switch - changes the meter from amps to volts

..... and it still works after 20 years.

I think I have a set of those foams you're talking about, I think they were made by AJ's. I know they have that Goodyear logo. I'll have to dig them out.

I love it! Definitely looks like something that would have shown up at the track I grew up racing on. 8)

when i first started racing i ran the car in stock configuration with rubber tires and traction compound..it was ok...meh. then my friend bob showed me a trick by using foam tires and capping them with black silicone. traction was better especially when you got out of the groove and into the dirty stuff you didn't have to pull in and put more traction compound on... but the car pushed like a s.o.b in the corners because of the fat tires in the rear and skinnies in the front. so my friend then suggested to flipping the motor and trans inward and the car handled soo much better it knocked down my lap times.

I love the charger. I bet you had no problems with it. Kinda cool to see someone take matters in to their own hands to build something that actually functions. Thanks for the pics.

funny. As a kid I also used a "home made" charger. My grandfather built it, he also was an electrical engineer of some kind. I think he used mostly old TV parts  . Yours is al little more sofisticated btw!
