need dual ball joint shocks for my ayk 566b

Hi

I'm working on restoring a AYK super trail. I will likely make a shock tower for the back and use a different setup in the front. I think I need shocks in the rear that would have dual ball joints (at the shaft and at the shock cap).

Does Tamiya have those? About the size of front shocks for the RC10 (original) would do. Metal if possible.

Thanks for any help...

Kyosho platinum shocks have a metal ball on top. Also, Tamiya cva shocks for the ta01 and ta02 cars will accept a metal ball stud both top and bottom. The Tamiya shocks I speak of are plastic, but theres probably a metal upgrade for big $$. To get some controlled side to side movement from a kyosho gold shock I have used silicone fuel tubing as a sleeve in the upper shock hole,, over the screw that would secure it to a shock tower. The flexible tubing allows some movement, yet keeps things tight and slop free.

I have used the tubing trick too. I'm hoping for something with a ball joint though. I will look into those. Thanks

I am also wondering what lenght are the RC18 shocks. The 566b uses quite small shocks... There might be something that would be a direct fit but that would work better than the stock ones.

3Racing shocks have 4.8mm captured balls in the caps & shock ends, and come in a wide variety of sizes. They work very well, but might need lighter shock oil or the holes opened up a bit in the piston rings to make them work better in a 1:10 offroad car. They're cheap as dirt, too.

I used these on the Marui Galaxy I restored for my brother (65mm front & rear) and the Lazer ZX-5 damper set for the CYANide Optima.

Can you describe how the 3 racing shocks are sealed? I would love to find a source for good shocks as long as they are not sealed like old optima or progress shocks.

Good point. I bought similar shocks in the past (can't remember the brand though) and they leaked quite a bit.. Are those well sealed?

I also found that TL-01 shocks should work fine in the back for the 566. They are 50mm. That's 2-3mm too long for the font though. They would fit in the front with a new mounting hole on the chassis rail. I'd like to find a direct fit for the front but I doubt I'll be able to find shocks that match for the front and rear without mods.

You´re not really considering tamya plastic shocks on an Ayk 566B  :D

Nope... got these instead. They are 1-2mm close to the original ones so I figure they would work... I just need to figure a way to make the top ring "flexible" a bit. I'm thinking of sandwitching it in between conical washers or something like that...

Looking at some assembly diagrams online, and from memory--I believe they have a clear diaphram similar to the Kyosho Golds in the shock cap, and each shock has two 3mm O-rings on the shock shaft. I've built 8 of these in total and none have leaked.

Yeah.. All things being equal, r/c parts are much more expansive than 1:1 parts...
