CVD Conversion: VZW-010 Drive Washers Binding on Bearings

I'm converting a ZX-R (well a Mid with ZX-R suspension to be precise) to CVDs and I thought I had everything worked out but I have hit a problem

I have LA231-02 axles and when I assemble them with VZW010 hexes the bearings bind when I tighten up the wheel nuts.
I am using Associated bearings but have also tried other random bearings in my parts bin to no avail
There are no shims anywhere. I am using 3 racing ZX5 knuckles and rear hubs.
I tried an OT-16 knuckle and had the same problem so its not the 3-racing parts
There are two holes for the cross pin on these hubs and I am indeed using the hole which places the drive hub furthest from the bearing so thats not the cause

I have seen one Lazer assembled on Oople with the same parts but that member is not around to comment on any tricks he may have used.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm close to getting this mega-mid on all four wheels so I can then strip and assemble it properly

Do I just need to run the LAW-30 clamp hexes?
What car ran the VZW-010 and what hubs and axles did it use?

VZW is one of the later pureten GP cars (FW-05, 06 or V-One-something).

LAW-30 should work without a hitch. Instead of having a hole they are clamp-style drive washers.

Thanks for the info.
What axles do those GP cars run?

I don't know. I think the manuals can be found on Kyosho Japan's English website though.
