Found an RPM gear cover...and I can't get it on the car.

After searching for a while I finally scored the much sought-after RPM cover for my LRM slipper set-up, and I can't get anything on the forward-most screw. The old scans say to use a nylon 4-40 nut, and the smallest one I could find doesn't fit. Went to the hardware store and bought the smallest 4-40 nut they have, and that doesn't fit either. It fits the screw, but there isn't enough room for it to turn on the threads.

I read something about super gluing a washer to the end of a ball cup...is that the easiest or best way to attach this stupid thing?

You might be able to grind a flat spot on one side of the nut, hold it against the cover with your finger, then thread the screw into it.

Pretty sure we ran a small pattern locknut on those but it's been a while.

Associated 4449 should do the trick. They are a 3/16 head instead of 1/4. Same as the hex on a ball joint

You know what would work really well? One of the earlier Associated ballcups that only had a hex near the cup, cut the cup off and you have a long nylon 4-40 nut that is smooth for more clearance near the gear cover :)

BID we used an old worn out long losi ball cup, cut off the end and used a short socket head cap screw on one end and screw it on against the gear cover.

Worked like a charm. Or just use the entire worn out ball cup with your fingers.

Um...that looks like the ticket for sure! I'm going to go hack up an old ball cup right now.

I use a small peice of rubber tube (peice of wire with the strands removed) its just a tight push-on fit but works OK.... think I might try the ball joint trick as that looks like it could be more secure?

By the way - you'll find that the slider driveshafts foul the u/side of the cover when the suspension is under full compression - I used a hairdrier set on HOT to heat up the plastic locally & re-formed the cover with a peice of aluminium tube to gain the necessary clearance
