XPS micro esc #8023AE and 8.4v battery pack?

I am wanting to run my rc10 with a 8.4 volt (7cell) NIMH battery pack and was thinking about buying a XPS micro esc #8023AE to go with it. Will this combination work? I read where I CAN NOT use the diodes described in the rc10 build manual to reduce the voltage, is this correct and if so will the esc handle the higher voltage? I don't want to ruin anything with too much voltage.
Thanks, Jack

I think that speed control is not what you are after for a 10th scale car as that is the stock speed control for a RC18t/b/mt If you want a speed control in that same basic size/shape you may want to look at one of LRP's speed controls like the AI runner... except that only is specced to 6 cell. Hmm. Well the main part of this post is the speed control you have selected will go up in smoke in your planned setup :)
