Huge thanks to Phin on this one. I hadn't seen it and he let me know it was there. Got it for a song and dance which is even better!

I have seen some interesting things in my time, cars like the M.A.N.E Eclipse that were just so flat out cool that they didn't even have to perform or be legal for anything. This is one of the strangest pan cars I have seen with a more central motor, chain drive, and 2 speed yet retaining a classic chassis layout. I can't wait to start cleaning it up and see what's under all those years of dust

That's really cool. If it wasn't for the ball diff I'd assume it was a drag car.

Thanks guys. It's fun to see another take on a different design, they were fond of moving the motor forward on this and their drag car both.

The thrust bearing is interesting too, it's a one piece non serviceable unit. The diff needs a setscrew in the other side to lock it down as it backs off very easy even though the thrust is nice and free

I was thinking the same thing. The thrust bearing...or lack there of...is also what the TPS trans used. I'll take mine apart in the morning to check.

Yep! Definitely TPS parts. I manged to use the Yokomo thrust bearings in my TPS Ultima trans. Much better.

Excellent, I too was sure they borrowed them just not sure from who. The outdrives I'm sure are custom, but it has some small and fairly thick diff rings. I bet those are TPS too then

And as you can imagine............a bit hard to find. But like everything else they're out there. Diff. balls are like 3.5mm. Weird size.

Lucky for me it's all in good shape and smooth- just loosens easily. No rebuild needed just a freshening and either locktite or a setscrew

And like others have already said, that looks like a TPS diff pulley. What's the front pulley look like? It might be the same as a TPS tranny too.

And how does that 2-speed work? Does it have clutches inside that shift?

I haven't disassembled it yet but it definitely has the traditional one way where you can't roll the car backwards. I'm curious what those pieces are now as well, and also the small sprocket. I will break it down soon and we will see

The two speed is from a PB Mini Mustang.

The small gear should spin free on the shaft and there's a one way in the larger spur to allow the layshaft to spin faster when the clutch engages, but it means it doesn't go backwards nor does it let you brake. Just like nitro flywheel clutches it uses a pair of clutch shoes that spin out and grab the smaller gear at the adjustable shift point to change gear.

not that they are easy to find either, but I believe the diff rings are the same size as an AYK radiant/pro radiant. They are very close to the size of associated ATD diff rings:

I have a set and they need to be ground a little bit, I think on the OD, but I haven't gotten a chance to work on them yet. I also need to get some TPS parts to Jereme(LTO_Dave) when I get settled in the new house(I haven't forgotten about them, just been really busy)

Meaning that if you brake or are suddenly stopped, it's likely the oneway bearing will break.

The same stupid design is used in the Kyosho TF-series 2-speed. So you have a car capable of very high speeds, and no ability to brake.
