Vintage cars to race

Post by Triniboy »

Name a car you would like to race against current buggies maybe at club level. It doesnt have to be a competition car but could be anything from a Grasshopper onwards. I always wanted to try that but my skills are no good I have never consistantly raced before so I guess there is the reason.

I did race a Mardave Meteor about 18 years ago.

In all honesty a good driver can put a gold pan out there and hang with the newer buggies in a stock class on the right tracks.
It's all about the driver knowing his car and setups.

I raced a Pro-Cat with a 19 turn motor last saturday night in our vintage series, and would have qualified 2nd overall in 4wd modified!

I think a graphite RC10 would be fun. I have yet to weigh my RC10s and see how they compare. I think w/ newer B4 wheels and current tires i think I could be competitive.

Im still running a regular Team Car in a vintage class and the tires are still the nub style and i do pretty well. Stock motor and 2400s/3300s.

I think an RC10 with the 4wd belt drive might be kinda interesting.

Why would you need B4 wheels on it? The offset is all wrong.

 ...and I'm sure plenty of those you beat will have to 'upgrade' their XX4s to a B44 for that extra performance and the Procat will still be faster than them :D

Personaly I would love to get a hold of the original Avante , though unfortunately they are way out of my price range for a decent one . I mite not win the race but at least I would be the coolest looking car on the track  ...

A racer at my local club races a RC10T with novak brushless and lipos and owns all of us that are running T4s and XXX-Ts. He put all the gt suspension parts on it, T4 body and new style rims/tires. Its very fast and wins alot of races.
Vintage rides: Worlds car, RC10T, RC10GT, XX, Rally Weapon

I race a JRX-2 in Stock 2WD and a CF chassis LXT in Stock Truck. I do very well, winning my fair share of races. For the mod classes I run newer designs, XXX-T MF1 and a XXX-4. Due to a lack of Losi bodies I am swapping out the JRX-2 for a stealth / graphite plate RC10. I think a Parma Bug Body will go on the LXT.

2WD was really perfected a while back, so the older cars will still be competitive. IMHO, the 4WDs are being perfected today, and I really don't think the older designs can compete there. Some will say that the older Schumacher's can, but I don't think the drive trains they had would stand the abuse that modern drive systems put out.

I miss the days of "Box Stock Tamiya" racing, it gave noobies a class to race in other than Stock Truck. back in the day our track in Florida was pretty flat because the salt and pepper dirt wouldn't hold jumps very well. The weapon of choice in B.S.T. was the Hornet, and I'm selling a creampuff LXT to score a ReRe Hornet.

Sarasota. In High School (~88) I worked at H&H Hobbys on Tamiami Trail. We has a track on Fruitville Rd for one season and also raced clay oval in Arcadia. On the oval I raced a MIP gearbox RC10 that I converted to a sprint car. The rear end would slide out just like the real ones do and it would give me a little twitch coming out of the turn which told me I could nail the throttle. Reedy Blue Dot Motor! Great fun! Lots O' trophies!

Ahhh, I grew up pretty much due east on the other side of the coast. Space Coast Raceway was my home track.
