OPEN losi xx4 discussion
I have managed to not have one of these for along time, but had always been on the "list" of must haves. I purchased locally here from a racer ,an original release runner with 5700Kv CC motor Mamba and ACE 1015 servo. (pics to come soon) I had to reconfigure to handle a stick pack as I dont have an saddles. Had it out for a test drive just now and am simply amazed at this car.
There are a few build threads but general question, tips, setups etc are few and far between in my research so far. so I thought I would start a thread on such information. So Please join in the conversation.
What are the differences between the original 1997 release, the worlds edition, and the 2005 re-release?

Re: OPEN losi xx4 discussion
I have two XX-4's, and a bunch parts leftover from the builds. 1 XX-4 WE shelf car, and one XX-4 car I'm going to run.

Re: OPEN losi xx4 discussion
I also have a liking for the XX4. I will at some stage end up with one.
Obvious differences are dampers, chassis cell slots cut out on the worlds version and body I think. There will be more.

What are people using for belts? Losi still make them or you gone to aftermarket belts now?
Also, what can be done to preserve the belts so that the car can be run another 20 years from now...
Aside from keeping the belts in a cool dark dry place. Does anyone have a recipe for sealing them in wax to preserve them?

Re: OPEN losi xx4 discussion
There was actually quite a few differences that I'm finding out between the two versions. Especially since the WE comes with the 'cr' suspension parts (arms and rear hubs). The cars were made from different plastics besides plastic from graphite, (some had white parts, some had black parts, some had grey parts. shock towers were different as far as bracing and rear camber mounting positions. Shock bushings changed. The rear bumper changed. The original car had 5 spoke wheels, the WE had solid dish.
Basically, the lay shafts, belt pullies, slipper clutch, drive shafts (minus the rear plastic yokes), ball studs and screws stayed the same.

Re: OPEN losi xx4 discussion
Its possible to get some belts, its just a small "timing belt". I have a friend that's a tool maker who is helping locate a source. I sure the problem will be the quantity that will be required to order them.
Re: OPEN losi xx4 discussion
There is lot of good reports about these:

Yeah, those will do if I can't find the heavy duty, high rpm, oil resistant green ones.

Re: OPEN losi xx4 discussion
Well, I heard the tell tale clicking and then rear belt let loose today. I have a spare and will install asap. My new car seems top be fitted with rear outdrive keepers, trinity motor clamp, trinity shock mounts. the tough belts seem a decent price, anyone prefer these over losi's?

Re: OPEN losi xx4 discussion
I think blue front and green-green, but that's a guess based on the re-re. Over on rc-tech.net, there is a xx4 thread that's like almost 300 posts long. Some bs but good info .in places. Oople and Petit sites also have years worth of pro setups, including relatively recent ones. You just have to Google and surf a bit.mamadoesn`tletme wrote:does anyone knows what the losi team drivers are using for belts?

Re: OPEN losi xx4 discussion
Losi has the green belts still available, Dyno Dan put an order in for more before he left Losi. The Tough Racing belts seem to stretch (based on what I have read) but work. I miss my XX4s, have a more than a few over the years and have not ran 4wd in a while now. Seeing all the beautiful cars is really making me jones for one again...damn, another class, just what I need!!

Re: OPEN losi xx4 discussion
Well I just joined the club Joey. Got a WE on the way to me from Wales! You can live vicariously through mine if you want, while I try to get it all sorted out. More of the pleasure and less of the pain that way maybe?JK Racing wrote:Losi has the green belts still available, Dyno Dan put an order in for more before he left Losi. Edit - yeah with the Tough Belts, a tensioner pulley is a good idea I gather.

Re: OPEN losi xx4 discussion
I plan on ordering a losi belt set also. I have needed some hardware also and my normal source's cupboards are bare. Good to know on the tough belts on the streaching. I will be a guinea pig and thy em out for our group.
I just had the rear diff apart and has a neat looking Lightweight outdrives with a spring instead of the bellville washers. I know I know this thread is useless without pictures
