Another Newbie saying hi !

Hi all, new to this forum although some may recognise my member name from TC forum.

Thanks to Aaron, aip47-2008, who's helped me out with a few Optima mid parts in the last couple of weeks. Seemed rude not to poke my head in and say thank you

My current projects are..

Kyosho Optima Mid Custom Special - 'restoration'
Kyosho Optima - 'restoration'

I'm aiming to get these as light runenrs with new body sets from Marwan, the former with a sensored 13.5T brushless set up, the latter a more classic brushed powerplant.

Just finishing off converting a new Tamiya Vajra kit into an Egress with Fibre-Lyte carbon fibre chassis parts (the Vajra leftovers will be combined with an old Vanquish drivetrain to actually make the Vajra).

Most of my collection is Tamiya based, but i do like the vintage Kyoshos for their build quality and engineering. So far i have a Gallop MkII (restored), Gallop MkI in original good condition and a Progress awaiting restoration. This is the Gallop MkII..

Thats enough for now ;)

G'day mate. Glad to see you over here. This is a great place to share your enthusiasm of anything old school.
That Mk2 looks great. I've built two myself so I know what goes into them. Did you ball race yours? I had to grind the flange off the only bearings I could find for the front gearbox.
Terrible cars to drive but damn they look great!
Cheers - Jason

Thanks Jason,

I was very lucky with the Gallops ..

The MKII looked dreadful when it arrived..

but proved to be very good under the dirt n grime - in fact i replaced absolutely nothing ! I literally just tore it apart, ran all the parts through the ultrasonic cleaner numerous times and then rebuilt it. I did all that in one day - the wife couldn't believe what she'd bought me when i opened the parcel in the morning, but by the time she came home that evening the chassis was transformed. I got lots of bonus points that day :D :D

I only added a TBG body, repro decals and a MkI rear cage (since i still can't find a MkII one :( )

The MkI came to me from Hungary, via eBay - was bought on a bit of a whim to be honest but when it arrived it needed only one tire reseating and its sat on the shelf since; one day it will get a rebuild but its absolutley fine for now.

The Progress currently looks worse than the MkII Gallop did, but i'm a sucker for a basket case, and it'll get a rebuild and a new shell in time

As you state, they are great lookers and a real fascination for me with the 4 wheels drive and 4 wheel steering, but they aren't the best drivers and the steering certainly takes some getting used too on fast sweepers !

A few of my others...
original Egress runner on arrival..

and after a full strip down, ultrasonic clean and rebuild (the shell is also the original one, but repainted after 25years! )

A few other ''rescue projects''
Top Force..

Monster Beetle (recently sold)..

Falcon..

Latest Egress (built from the Vajra parts and carbon fibre chassis from Fibre-Lyte), alongside its older brother..

Great to see you over here mate. Looking forward to seeing how the Optima will turn out (it's got to be better than when it left here  )

Hey - it was very tidy actually, only part stripped down as present. It'll be a few weeks yet ;)

The Opti Mid LWB is part reassembled though, with Marwan body and decal set to hand :D :D

Been distracted by a wreck of a Vanquish that will mean i can actually build a Vajra with the leftovers of the kit and this wreck :D

Hi & welcome to the forum, nice collection of cars you have.... I recently commented on your New-Built Egress/Vajra over on Tamiyaclub.

Will be nice if you keep us updated with your projects with threads in the relevant sections.... you never know you might even end up desiring an RC10
