Kyosho 'Slighshot' dirt oval racer

Post by Bormac »

I recently picked up a job lot with what I am certain is one of these cars. The car is quite dusty and I have started cleaning it up. Are these cars rare? I have not seen one before. It uses Optima Mid arms and is from that era.
Are they a good dirt oval car?

They were not a great seller and the belts were not protected and quickly went out. They had a slingshot which had hold shocks and front one ways, and a sport model later simply called the "lumina" because of the stock car body. It had mid wheels and black shocks, and a gear diff front.

Here is mine with lazer wheels and still waiting for another set of gold fronts. Funny enough I just bought the parts back from Dave after he had them for a few years lol.

Both versions have solid rear axles, dogbones all around, I believe diff mounts were spider

The lumina had bushings, SS bearings
Lumina chassis not countersunk, SS was
Lumina metal towers, SS was frp
SS had no electronics or body, lumina had a HD rotary and 240st iirc

The Slingshot is on my long list of R/C's I wouldn't mind owning.

I was addicted to these cars a few years when I first saw them in an old magazine. I ended up with 3 rollers, two boxes and a bunch of parts.

From reading the old race reports they must not have been very popular and/or competitive on the professional level, but who knows.

Here's mine built from all NIP parts and about all I have left:

Those are the NIP kit tires and wheels that I put on for the pics, then back in the bag they went.

Did these tires come in any other Kyosho kit?

Dave stole that lot from me bitd. Sealed bag of gold shocks, chassis and upper deck, tires and wheels, decals...but I showed him! I bought back some of the stuff 4 years later lmfao!

Cool cars but belt life was terrible and they were no Dominator or SRP1 for sure! I want the green vette body that tower showed on it. I think it was Andys?

I was looking to build a replica of that green Tower car years ago, but never found the body after putting up wanted ads on different forums. It's a Parma Radical Wedge #10345 if you ever come across one.

Hi guys! Just started getting interested in this model. Could any of you measure the chassis length and width? I mean the chassis plate by it self. Much appreciated.

Cheers
