Yet Another RC10 CE Project!

Post by mdutcher »

I can't believe how much fun it is to revisit the past with working on these vintage projects. This is my more recent score and I wanted to make it a little modern and keep it unique to me.

Here it is before I touched it....

And the process begins...

Working on the front end...
Added GT front axles.

Steering upgrade.

Finished the front end.

Now onto the rear...

Cleaned and rebuilt the diff.

Ok, now you got my attention! I have questions:

1. What are the shock mounts that you used? B4? Love blue aluminum bling
2. I noticed something different on the rear hubs, some kind of blue aluminum thing to replace the pin drive? What is it and where did you get it? Is that for stock axles or B4 sized ones?

Thank you for liking the blue bling. That is what I dig about these projects. Small and simple.

The shock mounts have a blue shock bushing by Associated (part no 1780). Is that what you are inquiring about?

For the rear end I am using B44 rear axles with B4 hubs with a B4 extender spacer with the pin. On the other side of that you will need a .125 spacer that fits right over it so that standard B4 wheels can be ran without tire interference to the shock. That spacer can be bought at RC planet. Within the RC10 buggy section look for my first posted thread that discusses my RC10 worlds runner project. Reg explained this to me there with some helpful links.

Thanks and I hope that this helps. Enjoy.

Thank you! I love the blue as well. I also love the vintage projects, but am not staying true to the era of the buggy as I want run the buggies and adding modern items. I plan on trying to do a project that is keeping the buggy as original..... One day.

I have a couple of bodies... Not sure which one I will go with and will have to think about a color scheme. That will come later. :D

The chassis and nose plate look new?

Builds like these make me want to build a non-oin buggy to race. Great work!!

They do look new. However, they are not. There is a scrape here and there, but it looks mostly pristine and I love that. It was a great score thanks to a member here on this forum!

Are you going to run an undertray, it looks so clean, it would be a shame to scratch it up badly when there's an easy protection option available?

Yes, the thought has crossed my mind for sure. I will most likely do something there.

Here is an update to my car.

Electronics added: Novak GTB 2 and a Reedy 10.5T motor (possibly too hot).

Body added. Not the best paint job (and definitely not professional), but I love the random effects that I get out of my style of painting.

I have also tried adding some contact paper to the bottom, but it will most likely only last about 1-2 sessions of racing. I will continue with it as long as I can to preserve the bottom.

I took it to the track for some open practice and the car drives very nice. It is slightly different than my other CE runner, but pretty close. I love it!

Here are some more pics with my updates.

I got the idea from another member on this forum. Essentially, I am using standard RC10B4.1 wing mounts. Screw them into the shock tower, which BTW, mine are from RC Carbon Works and they come with holes already drilled into them. I just used on of the holes for each wing mount. The bottom of the wing mount will rest on the stealth tranny brace. This is where it doesn't look too professional, but it works for me. I then cut a hole in the back of the body to allow for the wing mounts to pop through.

Hope that this helps.

I am glad that you like the build. I am really digging these projects.
