Caged Ultima

Post by losiXXXman »

I really like cage buggies, and the look of the original Ultima has really gotten a hold of me lately, but I don't have one of the cages. I did have this old FAV cage lying around that I had bought before the rere FAV and Wild Ones had come to be. Due to the rere, I cnacelled the wild one project I ahd been working on, so this cage was collecting dust...until now.

Still have some work to do but I think you get the idea...

Very different i must say.

What wheels are they? Looks like Ofna CRT.5 on the rear but what did you use up the front? :? Maybe Duratrax?

Looks great just sitting there, but how are you going to plan to mount & secure it? Someday I want to build a custom RWD using Optima-series & Ultima parts I have lying around and a part-rollcage/part Lexan body is something I'm considering. I'd probably use steel brake/fuel line though.
Completed projects: CYANide Onroad Optima | Zebra Gold Optima | Barney Optima | OptiMutt RWD Mid
Gallery - Coel's Stalls: Marui Galaxy & Shogun Resto-Mods | FrankenBuff AYK Buffalo | 1987 Buick GNX RC12L3

Yeah, it is an Outrage right now, I plan to update the chassis to something else at some point...It's all I had for a foundation.

I do still have to work out the mounting points of the cage, as well as what to use for a body. :? I mocked up something w/ cardboard, then replicated it in thin kydex, but I'm not so satisfied with it....yet.

Mark, they are the duratrax wheels. I haven't had any issues with durability....of course I don't race, and haven't really been running my cars that much at all, period. I modded a set of rc10 axles to work with some tamiya hornet knuckles and the stock ultima caster blocks... Just getting creative with what I had on hand.
