Branched out into Helicopters

Post by soniccj5 »

Couple months ago I got a small 3 channel helicopter and got hooked. Decided to get a larger helicopter and bought a Hausler 450(TRex 450 Clone). Much harder to control, but a lot of fun.

I hope some day I will be able to hover and move around without taking my head off. :D

I could use my old Protech as a canopy.

I am just able to slide around on the ground. Need to work my way up to hovering. At this point my RC-10 has seen more air time.

sometimes you need to "goose" the throttle a bit to get them into a hover without them falling over.

yeah, the more room the better. While you are concentrating on keeping it nose out, it will wander over quite a large area. Almost want to nail the throttle to snap it up into the air, then back down to keep it hovering.

I have smaller helis that are crashed. haven't stepped to the 450 yet since pulling all the old cars out of the mothballs and catching the bug. even though I'm spending more money, the parts are still intact, and not a broken pile of swash and blade parts.

training gear can be more of a hinderance then a help. i gave up on training gear on the first day with my first heli.

i too can't seem to step up to a 450, too much $$ and i have a vintage rc car habit to feed.

Agreed, I run a few small to mid size helis, and thats what you need to do.

I also have the SR120, have gotten it about 3-4 feet off the ground.

Sweaty palms, the rush of getting it airborne (e)? Great heli to run. Then set it down so I don't have it scream off and crash it somehow!

Need to go talk to Rod at the shop and get some better parts and some info from the guys in the flight dept.

If anyone is board here is one of my first flights in my driveway.

The noise you heard was the label around the motor being ripped off.

I used to fly a Blade 400. I found it a lot easier to control by just blipping the throttle to get it off the ground by a few feet initially, then it became more stable and predictable. I also found my skill progressing a lot more rapidly once I bought a simulator. And the training gear was always a bit of a hindrance for me, the chopper just never felt right with it. Sadly I don't live in an area where I can just go fly when ever I want, so I haven't flown in a while now.

Welcome to the Heli club!

Have you found Helifreak.com and Finless Bob yet?(Finless does a bunch of Trex 450 setup and flight videos free)

Do you have a book on set up, Check out Ray's Heli Tech

Looks like you have some version of a Trex 450 V1 or derivetive. (My first heli and one of my most frequently flown.)

Take your time and remember each flight begins and ends with a hover. Sims are great but no match for stick time particularly when learning to hover.

Good Luck T.J.

Yes I found helifreak and watch some of the videos. Might be getting Phoenix Simulator tomorrow, depending if a deal on one of my R/C trucks happens.

My helicopter is a Hausler Trex 450 clone V2 I think. It does have a belt drive tail rotor, which already needed to be tightened once(maybe poor assembly at the RTF plant).

Santa brought me a Blade mCPX. Due to a trim problem with my DX5e I put a hole in a wall. Need some practice in a bigger space, but they are a blast!
