Can you fit Clod Buster Wheels/Tyres to Blackfoot?
Can you fit Clod Buster Wheels/Tyres to Blackfoot?
Anyone know the answer to the question of whether you can fit original Clod Buster wheels/tyres to the original Blackfoot and, if so, please could they let me know how it is done/which parts are necessary?
Thanks a lot.

Easiest thing to do would be getting a set of imex jumbo tires and dual rims. Finding them isn't that easy though.
Another thing you can do is to modify a blackfoot rim to fit inside the clod rim, then just glue it and screw it. I did it a couple years ago to a pair to help my old midnight pumpkin get through the snow.

I remember an old add in RCCA showing a amonster beetle or something along those lines with clodbuster wheels. Could have been IMEX? I think the same add also had a listing with lots of chromed plastic parts and light kits.

It was common to use a set of marui big bear tires and rims on the blackfoot. They look similar to a clods, just not quite as big.

Be careful of the diff/driveshafts if you do mount them. They're easily damaged! Get a Thorp ball diff/dogbones if you can find one.

I'm pretty sure adapters were made just for this.
As for the Big Bear tires, I remember that was a popular upgrade because the Big Bear tires had more bite, I believe the rubber is softer than the Blackfoot tires.

epoxy that diff if you want it to move for more then a minute or two.
i wouldn't waste a thorpe diff on this, just lock the stocker and get some new frog cvd's.

I'd like to find a set of adapters for the Clod to Blackfoot conversion....The Big Bear stuff is getting pricey.Lowgear wrote:It was popular enough that JG made front and rear adapters in order to achieve such a thing.
Projects and shelfers:
Late Edinger, RC10B2, Dual Sport, GT, Kyosho Turbo Ultima, Triumph, Tamiya Sand Scorcher, Blackfoot/Monster Beetle, '67 Beetle, Nikko Rhino, Traxxas Fiero, Slash, Hand-built Dune Buggy..all on here somewhere...

I don't recall any company making Clod to Blackfoot adapters. I'm not saying there isn't any, just that I don't specifically know of any.
Is this something you plan to run? If it were me, I would choose Midnight Pumpkin / Lunch Box etc... wheels for a number of reasons.

If you're referring to me I don't see where I confused it?
Anyway, what I would do is go over to Tamiya Club and see if there are any examples of Blackfoots with Clod wheels to see how they did it.

Re: Can you fit Clod Buster Wheels/Tyres to Blackfoot?
Thanks for all the comments/suggestions/etc. Much appreciated. By way of background, I'm hoping to put together another blackfoot with a few funky parts like trackmaster gearbox, hot trick style chassis, period aluminium shocks, etc, and wanted to add some wheels which were slightly more "monster" truck style than the original blackfoot ones. I'll have a look around as per the suggesions above.

Re: Can you fit Clod Buster Wheels/Tyres to Blackfoot?
Bitd I took a pair of tamiya mount foam on road tires and stuck my clod tires right over them. They friction fit just great and ran for almost a whole 1200 mah pack before the splines on the drive shafts became smooth.
I do not recommend clod tires on a vintage Blackfoot.
