Anyone mounted modern size tires/wheels on a Fox?

Wanting to run a Hot Trick Red Fox at the local track in stock buggy and I need to fit modern tires.
Any tips or leads would be greatly appreciated.

As you can see in my avatar, it wont be the first time I've run a vintage car against modern cars.

Hi.

I have done lot's of research on wheels and have a huge inventory of wheels .

So i found best is any 2.2 wheels made for the rc10's like for the graphite and championship edition. They are little expensive but are well worth it.

I have a set of Trinity's on my fox runner and a new set from imax i think. Tires are Bow Ties with Losi Front's. The wheels do away with the standard fragile drive hub & just uses a axle pin like Losi & AE. The off sets are better too which helps the stability a lot in the rear end. A few suspension mods and different steering set up.

Stock front's are fine for modern rubber. Here;s a pic of mine Hope this helps.

So the stock front wheels are the correct size? Awesome.

Are the rear RC10 wheels you are talking about still available new or do I need to search ebay for them?
Also do they bolt up with no mods?

Does anyone make repop bodies?

Yep the rear will bolt on with no drive plate, just the pin in the axle.

Front wheels take 2.2. Just changed my fronts so i could dye mine to match the Trinity purple/pink. I hate miss matched colour wheels.

Yep E bay is the place. May take a while. Other wheels that are easy to get is the Ofna CRT .5 truggy ( Mini Truggy) Bolt straight on and are cheap but the off sets are pretty big.

Re Po shell on mine is Team Blue Groove on E bay. Re po decals are of e bay but not the best. bjmodels is where i got mine but get the clear version not the white vinyl like these. Not good.

Does any of the newer Tamiya dished front wheels fit?
Is there a known bearing to use to run the rc10 front dished wheels on a Fox?

I could bolt up a set of tecna's and go racing...lol

All Tamiya front wheels will fit. Bearing sizes haven't changed.

Evader Wheels I think will fit I have a set but haven't tried them. Offsets are good too. You have a good eye. I new about them but stayed away as they were plastic wheels. I got 2 full sets in a trade i did here and found them to be nylon.

I'm pretty sure they will. Not 100% thats all.

What are the drawbacks to the plastic vs nylon? Will the plastic just not hold up to racing?

If its for re-using purposes, I'd probably just rather buy new wheels for $10 than hassle with soaking them.

I've done lots of real car custom wheel fitments for heavily modified and/or race cars so I understand and can see the basic offset stuff.

The old RC10 wheels seem to have a lower offset, but if the Nitro Evader (electric version looks to have bigger offset) is close and will work they are cheap and readily available. I'll order a pr and report back. If you get a chance in the next few days, could you measure the offsets of the RC10 vs the Nitro Evader wheels for me? Crudely with basic tools would be fine just to get an idea.

Yep will do in a few days. ( Off to work for another 3 day stint)

I want to try it myself now.

Plastic are weaker and normally break at the axle or buckle easier .

I re use most of my wheels . ( Need to with all my runners)

you probably had to redrill the rear wheels to get them to fit right? AE axles are "standard" (4.92mm I think) while Tamiya uses metric (5mm iirc)... I had to do that to fit Rc10 wheels on my TRX1, with an offset that looks about right.

Which makes me think - chances are TRX1/Radicator wheels should fit fine on the fox... will check this weekend with mine.

My Nitro Evader BX wheels showed up today. I ball park measured them with a tape measure. The back spacing is just under 9/16" compared to the B3 Rc10's 7/16". So they do work, but the offset isn't as good as the B3 wheels. The B3 wheels increase your rear track almost 1/4" compared to the Nitro Evader wheels. You will also have to open up the axle hole about half way through to get the tapered portion of the axle to fit, not a big deal. So for cheap wheels they will work fine, but if you plan on racing I think the B3 wheels would be better for the increased track width.

I scooped up a NIP set of B3 nylon Proline rear wheels today on eBay. $16 shipped.

I guess next would be to search for an axle that is longer so you can use a hex wheel possibly. I'll do some digging around on that and report back if I find anything good.
