Hello everyone. Help me build an Rc10gt

Post by RamP »

Just joined up. My name is Rich from CT. I just got my first TA truck recently. It was thrown in with an HPI MT2 I bought. Now I'm looking to set it up. I need engine advice. I have a new receiver/transmiter combo and have new servos coming. I'm replacing the hardware in the truck and getting a new fuel tank. The ae engine that came with the truck is shot. I'd like to put an OS cvr 18 in it. Can I use all the gears from the stock engine on it? What motor mounts do I need?
Thanks in advance.

After doing some research I may be leaning towards a 15 motor instead of an 18. Is it just me or does the 15 seem to be easier on the gears and more reliable? Any advice is much appreciated.

Hi Rich,

I cant be any help, but I have thought about getting a RC10GT someday as my first non-electric RC and I will see how you make out with yours. Welcome to the site, there is a lot of knowledgeable and good people here so ask as many things as you can.

If you aren't real familiar with these an .18 is gonna be a handful. An OS cv or cvr .15 would be more than able to make you smile with this thing. You have the first rtr flat chassis platform. All the flywheel and out depends on what you have and what you are going to get. Pictures would help there. A must have IMHO is an MIP 4-n-1 clutch shoe set. Will make for more running and less maintaining. An automatic no brainer would be bearings throughout. Another must have is MIP ballbearing steering and a HD servo to turn those wheels. If you are going to run it alot FT turnbuckles are nice but it kinda looks like they are allready on it. RPM ball ends on those are getting nitpicky but everything minuts the 4-n-1 clutch shoes can be replaced as needed so it doesn't have to be a big expense all at once. The list can go on an on like shocks, rx packs, RR matched gearsets, etc. but I'm thinkin you get the jist as a start.

I'd go with an O.S. CVR .12 or .15. They will fit nicely w/o modification and they are very reliable and strong. Well... as reliable as nitro gets anyway... Nice start you have there. 8)

Thanks for the replies. In your opinions is there any engines I should stay away from? I was thinking of keeping with the TA brand and get this. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHTN2&P=0#tech
I'm having trouble finding an os CV .15.

The OS is gonna be a little more money but worth every penny. The OS carbs are second to none. Makes it very reliable, easy to tune and keeps a tune.

Ver nice. I also have a T41 xp3 SS transmitter/receiver combo to go into it. Can you recommend a decent metal geared servo? I don't need the best but want reliability.

I'd look at Hitec servos at Tower. They're very decent for the money.

+1, but be aware that they need a servo horn specifically for hitec servos, so buy a horn when you buy the servo.

Gotcha.
How compatible is the rcgt to the rcgt2? I have an opportunity to get a gt2 parts car.

About 5% of the GT2 is compatible.

I started messing with the stock motor. The car will fire only if I pour nitro directly into the carb. And then stall after its burned out. It does not seem to be sucking from the gas tank. Has anyone had this happen before and could a new tank solve the problem? Also, is there a good carb cleaning tutorial out there?
Thanks

is it a new tank like you said you were getting? If not it could have had fuel sit in it and plug the filter. If not maybe you have an air leak coming between the pipe and tank. More pix as its setup might help...
