I MISSED OUT!
Im 19 years old and Ive been into the hobby for 9 years now , but I feel like I missed out on the glory days or r/c cars. When racing was a really big thing and 500 people showed up for the world finals . In a time where you could show up to the track with a set of andy's arms and a stick pack and not get laughed at. Like a couple weeks ago I was at my local track with my t4. I have a set of RPM front arms and blue alloy steering blocks and rear hubs. The stock front arms break every run because I'm not a pro driver. The guy in the pit next to me was looking at the arms and the alloy he laughed , I was like whats soo funny he said "your a-arms and that Alloy are soo heavy, you should ditch them and put the stock stuff back on". You never see a driver in the worlds with another companys parts on there car. It like hopups are looked down apon these days if there not lipos and a brussless system. I wish there was a 4 wd conversion kit for my t4 or a swing arm conversion, you just dont see the same kind of cool stuff. Even the looks of the old cars IMO are much more to scale and look alot better in moster cases. Well back to the point I wanna here some old racin storys from day in the days . Since i couldn't be there i would really like to hear about some history .

I started in '88. Back then all of the companys were trying new and different things all the time to get an edge. Unfortunately, now everyone has really used the knowledge gained from those experiments to zero-in on what works the best for off-road racing. Back in the 80s improvements made big gains. Now that everyone has figured out the same thing, all the cars look real similar, and performance improvements come in small tweaks.

Tell that guy he is a moron and he's full of crap.
I've never been to the worlds, I don't know about 500 people crowds. I did race back in the late 80's and early 90's though.
One thing I do know, you need to build what is right for you, not what others think is right for you, or what others are running. If you break a certain part all the time, run a beefier version of it. There's no sense in being Mr. Lightweight if you can't even get your car across the finish line. That guy needs a reality check. He's at a club race, racing for "fun". Not at the Worlds racing for money, titles, sponsors and the reputation of the company that sent him.
The reason you *might* never see a driver at the worlds with another company's parts on is simple. The Worlds is the best advertising ANY company can get. How good would it look if the car you sent to the Worlds actually won, but it won with brand X arms on it? Might say something about the quality of your product. That was one thing that was so frustrating back in the day. Masami won two worlds titles with an "RC10". Neither of those winning cars were real cars, they were prototypes, they were never released to the public. Yet, AE can claim it won the worlds with an RC10. How the hell that works, I don't know. Another thing, drivers at World's level don't need beefy anything. They put a car on the track and drive it like it's on rails. That's how they got to the Worlds in the first place. Light is good for them.
Like most hobbies, the "glory days" aren't as glory filled as you are led to believe. It was fun then, it is fun now. You're probably much better off today though. Back then, we didn't have the internet to figure out all the hot setups and latest advancements. We only had RCCA and what others had figured out at the track. Today's cars are far superior (although you might hear different from some people on this board) to the cars we raced 15 years ago. They perform better, they're faster, they handle better, they're easier to work on, there's more parts support, etc, etc, etc. Evolution is a good thing.

I won't argue that pointMelvinsArmy wrote:....(although you might hear different from some people on this board)....

King, I never raced a car at an official track. Me and the neighborhood boys use to build our own tracks and just bash. It is all about the fun. If this guy bothers you, tell him he is zapping the fun factor out of it and to leave you alone.
He's an idiot. Comes from upbringing. His parents are probably idiots too.

God, if that were the case, we'd all have identical rigs, where's the creativity or fun in that?MelvinsArmy wrote:One thing I do know, you need to build what is right for you, not what others think is right for you, or what others are running.
