Need Help rebuilding Gold Pan
Need Help rebuilding Gold Pan
Hello! I recently started working on an old Gold Pan. It has a futaba reciever, a futaba 63003 servo, VXL-3s ESC, a Velineon 3500 motor, and a stock 6 speed trans. It was working great for a while. really fast. Here recently though, it wont work. When I give it gas, the motor and spur turn, but all it does is sit there and click. I think it's coming from the trans, but I'm not sure. I am new to rc cars, but have a good knowledge with planes/helis. Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Nope. I just took it all apart and it was the transmission. It is completely shot. I have read about this happening to other people who use brushless with the original 6 gear. Would a stealth work better? And if so, how do I get one that's affordable?

Installing a stealth would allow you to run brushless without stripping the gears. Check e-bay for a complete stealth, you can usually pick one up for $30.00.
Another good upgrade would be to install a B4 slipper.

Would any old stealth transmission work? The B4 transmissions look really different. Would it still work? Would it be hard to mount? All the stealth transmissions I have found so far specifically for the RC10 are in the $100 range.

I too have noticed that as of late stealths have been getting more expensive. Most of the BIN prices are on the high side, but I've been outbid into the $60's a few times now which just seems too much. I'll find one at a good price soon. Noroc, is your gold pan drilled for a stealth already? If not, you'll need to for a stealth.

Re: Need Help rebuilding Gold Pan
yeah, stealth transmissions completely rebuilt and cleaned up are going for $40-$119 BIN.
The B4 topshaft will fit on the stealth. I have used it on all my rebuilds. Fits right in and allows you to use the modern slipper.

I found a b3 stealth for $25 BIN. I couldn't pass it up. It should be delivered by Friday. I am gonna try to drill the chassis today using a template I found in here.

Re: Need Help rebuilding Gold Pan
you'll be doing more than just drilling a couple holes to put a b3 trans in a gold tub. you needed a 2.25 stealth, not the 2.40.
most likely, the template you're talking about is one for the 2.25. so, you might want to hold off on drilling any holes until you have the trans in hand.

Alright. Will it be very difficult to mount? Will I have to make a special bracket or anything?

Yup. If it is anything like the B4 Stealth, you will need to cut a square hole in the chassis.
Re: Need Help rebuilding Gold Pan
That will make things a bit more difficult. Hopefully I can figure something out

That doesn't look like it will be too bad. Thanks a lot for posting that!!
Re: Need Help rebuilding Gold Pan
Just curious, what is the hole for? Does part of the trans hang out? If so, what keeps it from getting torn up when the car bottoms out?
