Wheel options for a DS?
I'm looking for some viable options for wheels to go on an RC10DS. What setups are you guys using and what adapters/parts are you running to make this all work right? Seems like the stock BBS wheels and speed hawg tires are hard to come by. Thanks for any help.

easiest thing to do would be adding 12mm hexes to the rear axles, installing traxxas front axles/knuckles/hexes, and running touring car rims/tires.

Hey all, has anyone tried using the HPI Vintage style wheels and tires on the DS? If so how did they turn out and what offset did you use on the front and rear?

Re: Wheel options for a DS?
if they are more or less touring car wheels, then they should work out well using the thread scr8p posted above, converting to hexes all around.
I believe coelacanth used them in his project cyanide:

Re: Wheel options for a DS?
Ya, I saw that one. I really wish I could find a new/newer set of original wheels and tires. They seem to be really hard to find though without being halfway dry rotted and cracking. If anyone has or knows where to get a set like I've described please let me know.badattitude wrote:just fyi, a link to front wheels for a DS

Re: Wheel options for a DS?
I got a set of the HPI vintage style wheels and tires and did the hex conversion. The front end took some messing with to keep them from rubbing the C-hub but I finally got it right. I went with the 26mm wide zero offset in the front and the 31mm wide 6mm offset in the rear. I did a test run and they seem to grip pretty good but I still like the original wheels and tires better, plus seem to handle better.

Anyone tried using this conversion for the front?

This is what I did with mine. 1/10 Losi slider wheels, Narrowed the rears and the rest is a bolt on with 1/8" spacers in the front, No adaptors needed. Works perfect with 190 or 200mm TC body.

I may give that a try on my other one. Looks like a better solution without loosing the stock camber settings.
Re: Wheel options for a DS?
I'm going to try scr8p's suggestion.
I have the hpi vintage wheels and tires. They smell nasty.
They remind me of american mags from the 60's and 70's era.
waiting for the traxxas parts.

Yes, I just did. I'm using that kit with the HPI Vintage series wheels and tires. I have the 0mm offset in the front and 6mm in the rear.DHood wrote:Anyone tried using this conversion for the front?

It took some custom fitting to use the stock front C-hub. I had to bust out the lathe and mill. The axle had to have the groove widened and made a shade deeper to accomodate the stock 1/8" steering pin. The steering arm had to be milled down maybe 2mm to fit inside the stock C-hub and drilled for the stock 1/8" steering pin. All the mods I did probably could have been done with hand tools and/or Dremel but I have to justify the mill and lathe for hobby use.
