sensored vs nonsensored

Got my Reedy BL system working finally and I now have a different question. I had a Novak system that I got wet and I assume the speed control went to hell. Im going to send it in to get fixed. Can I run the Novak *sensored* motor with the Reedy *nonsensored* speed control?

You should be able to. It obviously just won't be sensored so that wiring harness doesn't get used.

No Mike, without the sensor wire attached the esc will run all that power to the first hall effect sensor and dump all that voltage into one pole of the stator causing a bad whining sound, lots of heat followed by bad smelling smoke.

some sensored esc's have a system that will run a sensored motor if the sensor wire breaks.

hobbywing's xerun series can do this. i know it works because my sensor wire came loose during a race and i couldn't tell the difference.
not all esc's can do this though.

Most will run fine if the sensor wire comes loose, until you come to a stop or a slow section and it starts cogging. That's when you can start having trouble with most.

no, the sensored speed control will not do anything without sensor input.

I don't get this :? the ESC is none sensored so why wouldn't it cycle the power to a sensored motor the same as it would to a none sensored motor?

I can understand why a sensored ESC wouldn't run a none sensored motor but I don't see why it wouldn't be ok the other way around?
