Does anyone know the size of the retaining clips for the original gold shocks? I'm trying to order some from McMaster-Carr.

I'm sorry I did not explain better. I'm talking about the internal retaining clip on the outside of the oldest gold shocks that holds the o-rings in place.

I'm only reviving this thread to make sure nobody searching for this retaining ring orders the clip linked above, because it is incorrect. 5/16" is the largest diameter that will fit in the bottom load shocks, but I'd probably go with 1/4" if I was to buy another bag.

I can report that 1/4" snap ring do not fit at all. They aren't even close to fitting.

The snap rings from the Traxxas 2362 rebuild kit fit.
Several of the plastics can be used as well, if you ream the ID from 3mm to 1/8". The bottom cover is particularly useful, as the originals tend to get damaged.

Are the retaining rings in the 6 gear the same size as the shocks rings?

No. They are larger.
I believe that the outdrives use a 3/8" clip. They retain a 5/16" flanged bearing, having roughly a 3/8" OD.
Oh yeah, concerning the Traxxas clips. I believe that they are metric, slightly larger than those on the bottom load shocks. They do fit but are notably harder to install and remove.
