Synergy's 870C Vintage Racer Finished

So I've just picked up a 870C that I intend to set up as a competitive runner, I don't have it in my hands yet so I'll post pictures when it arrives.

I want to be able to fit modern wheels and tyres, the requirements are the wheels and parts need to be readily available and it needs to be an easy bolt up conversion maintaining as close as possible original track widths.

I read one thread that seemed to cover this but I can't find it again  however it left me somewhat confused as there seemed to be many options being discussed.

So how do I do it :?

Jcracing on ebay sells 2.2 wheels that are bolt on. From there u run whatever tires are hot at your track.

Nice thing for u jc is in the uk

aren't the jc wheels for the yz10? or did they start making them for the 870c now, too?

ah, crap....yeah they aren't exact.

fronts are very close, rears need about 7mm spacer on each side, from what I recall, and the info in this thread:

http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=15462&hilit=yoke

still, making up the 7mm difference on each side is still probably the easiest way to get modern wheels on them.

This is the car:-

Now I'm confused I think it's the first YZ10 being the American version of the 870C so I'm guessing it needs the same to convert in to 2.2s?

yokomo made ZC-835 2.2" deep offset wheels and ZC-831 front 2.2" as well.
I'm using them on my 834B. but it was not easy to find them.

and you can try 2.15" ROAR wheels ZC-821 and deep offset ZC-825

870C needs deep offset wheels on the front too. but your 870C has thick wheel hubs in the picture. so you don't care about the offset. 8)

Thanks Mr.ED that was the thread I was referring to in my first post.

I was hoping there might now be a more definitive less complex answer, maybe involving the JC wheels?

So this is what landed, great condition and seems to be hardly used, anyway it's going to make a great UK Vonats style racer 8)

So is this the answer, I don't want to be dropping $120 if there's a better/easier/cheaper way

the JC racing wheels work with a spacer on the rear wheels as explained above.

other than that, you can use the Kyosho method, which is the method you outlined above.

if you decide to go the route of the JC wheels and need spacers I may be able to make some for you.

Thanks for the feedback, it doesn't look like the Kyosho solution addresses the track width issue  so I think the JC wheels and spacer might be the best option, I'll get back to you when I've done even more reading

widening the front end is is easy if you have the wide front suspension kit. you move the castor block to the outer hole to make room for longer universal, then use the 6mm hub from the original setup instead of the 2mm hub that comes in the wide suspension kit.

the rear is a different story. i was lucky enough to get a pair of the 30 series 2.2 rear rims with the deep offset. but i was planning on having longer rear arms made so i could use the long universals on the back. i still would've had to make some sort of spacer to push the rim out, put it wouldn't have had to be as wide.

I'm thinking the easiest way would be to run Works 91 bits and use the JC wheels :?:

It all depends on what's in your drawers and where you want to go.
Do you have wheels and tires you want to use, or are you going to buy new ones just for this car?
The rear end can be done lots cheaper by using dogbones and axles if you're trying to keep to a budget for example...
